Congrats to all the signers of this petition. Because of your engagement, your voices were heard and the gov't responded. The 21st Century Glass-Steagall Act was signed into law yesterday, by President Dfwlibertylover.

I would be interested in hearing your concerns.


Frankly though, my opinion is that in the process of "Freeing the market" we have in effect allowed natural market forces to eliminate the very thing that makes the market so appealing (choice and competition) in favor of monopolistic dominance by established wealth, which over time begins to degrade capitalism, into corporate welfare and eventually, oligarchy. There are cases where regulations have fueled this via regulatory capture, but at the same time there are instances where the complete absence of regulation has had a negative impact in terms of allowing anti-competition action on the part of actors whose sole goal is to concentrate wealth and power, not preserve either capitalism or free market.

Letting said power brokers maintain their corporate stranglehold on the "Free Market (which exists in name only in some cases), is the surest path to socialism and statist solutions, far worse that the simple text (effecting a simple outcome) that has been signed into law here.

I understand if you disagree on these points, it is after all a rather substantial shift from "recent conservative" orthodoxy. Though is in line with a lot of the state rhetorical goals about choice, competition and making sure that the free market is not distorted by poor decisions of a single firm that controls such a large proportion of the financial sector, that is collapse has ripple effects through out the whole economy.
