Khrushchev, because he was more sane and actually abandoned stalinism. Brezhnew did the opposite.

In Russia he is viewed very highly.

I have a question: Do you guys prefer Yeltsin or Khrushchev? Khrushchev liberalized the Soviet Union, but was "more authoritarian" overall, while Yeltsin openly gave more power to the KGB and authoritarians like Putin.

Khruschchev might just be the best Russian leader of the past century. Not the best person in charge...poor Gorbachev is a good man, but he was an abysmal politician.

Not Khrushchev (sane Jew of Soviet descent; not self-hating)

Brezhnev would have made every "bad" decision Khrushchev made, and probably worse.

Also, SATW, you added an extra c to Khrushchev.

lol thats odd, thank you for pointing out. i edited my post haha.

And, for me, it's not about who was worse. It is who made life more difficult for Jews compared to the standard set before that person. The answer is clearly Khrushchev. Brezhnev prob disliked Jews as well, but Khrushchev turned the USSR's guns on its Jews, shifting away from Stalin's indiscriminate hatred of everyone.

Khrushchev began the erasure of Jewish culture and identity in Moscow and other areas of the USSR. My family was lucky to live in a more isolated area of the USSR and thus avoided the harshest aspects of Moscow's hatred of Jewish people but they still felt a sting.

Isn't that your standard for every political question? Strikes me like racial collectivism.

Tough call. Domestically Khrushchev was always trying to shake things up and to reform the economy. Brezhnev was against change and reform and his leadership did lead to the era of stagnation. People seem to forget that Khrushchev's erratic and dangerous foreign policy moves almost lead to WW3 multiple times. Khrushchev had said ''rocket's will fly'' if the US did not pull out of West Berlin, he stationed Soviet ICBM's in Cuba, he also had this insane plan to build artificial islands off the US coast to base ICBM's closer to US shores. Under Brezhnev you had stability and detente in international relations. You had the SALT agreements signed and a general relaxing of tensions for a long time.

The Central Committee's selection of Brezhnev as premier was the beginning of the end of the USSR.

Not surprising to see the overwhelming proportion of leftists here (including myself) vote for the more rightwing option.

ROFL

imo Khrushchev was more fiscally conservative but Brezhnev was more socially conservative
