Given the state of emergency in Niger, I hope that the Senate will pass this bill swiftly for my signature.

Hey, everyone, just checking back in.  I'm on the cruise now.  Basically, the UN says they need $50 million to solve the crisis, so I thought we could put up half of it, which isn't that much in our budget anyway.

As much fun as it is to hear about what you thought this bill said... stop it and call for a vote!

Is the money going to actually go to the people?  If so, I'm all for it.

Well, it calls it "direct aid", so I would presume that the answer is "yes".

If Emsworth approves, I'm thinking that we should skip straight to voting, given that there seems to be no real debate over this.

Well I can assume that some corrupt millitary dictator will get his hands on this money, so I would hope we would add more provisions of how it will be dispersed. "Aide to Africa" quickly becomes "Aide to Bloated Tyrants."

After reading up on what the UN is doing, it sounds as if they're directly giving food to the people of Niger.  The aid is not in the form of money given to government officials.

The question is on final passage. All those in favor, say Aye; those opposed, say No.

With four ayes and three abstentions/ absences, the bill has enough votes to pass. Senators have twenty-four hours to vote or change their votes.
