One needs not go into great detail to deny something completely false. If someone accuses me of a despicable crime that I didn't do, I expect to brush it off easily. Guildy people have to put their guards up.

That doesn't sound like very smart legal advice.

Sounds like a cover-up, if you ask me.

Colluding to deny collusion.

The most disturbing part of that meme is elmo's facial expression more so than the explosion in the background.

Its like he is saying, "Oh god yes".

And that is what makes it work so well.

Can someone refresh my memory as to whether this was under investigation at the time, and hence an obstruction?

Not trying to be a hack here, but if it was just ASKING, like "Could you please deny the allegations?" Then that's fine.

Given Trump's history, I find it quite likely that he could be guilty of something similar, but unrelated - like Russian money laundering around 10 years ago.

This would be a reasonable defense had he first asked if he could ask and tgen didn't ask. If he didn't know and claimed not to, he wouldn't have scienter. As CiC, this "request" has tve appearance of Trump having scienter.
