Pretty obvious coming from me, but no. Pushing for more leftist policies like universal healthcare, tuition-free college and higher taxes on the rich would increase turnout among the youth and working class. We've seen spikes in youth turnout in Britain due to Corbyn's manifesto, and I'm sure the same would happen here if Democrats had someone like Sanders or even Warren at the top of the ticket.

All depends on what "move to the left" means.  They need to stand for something and not be the "technocratic reasonable" alternative to the GOP, especially because many of the voters that this type of "ideology" would appeal to are pretty firmly camped in the GOP no matter what kind of crazy shlt their nominee might say.  In the process, they'll offend the voters they count on most.

However, "move to the left" doesn't mean continue to alienate people culturally who don't live in major cities.  Most have equated "move to the left" in regard to economics, but I think what they really mean is be clear and united: the Democratic Party stands for working and disadvantaged Americans of all kinds.  And no, making that clear would not hurt the Democrats at all.
