I know we're technically between sessions right now, but I hope we can discuss this when the dust settles and our next session begins.

I wrote this legislation in an effort to tackle the issue of childhood obesity by promoting activity in sports and general exercise outside of schools. Lower income children are more likely to become overweight or obese due to the lack of availability of affordable, healthy food. This initiative seeks to involve children who may not be able to afford the cost of organized sports to still become involved anyway.

I'm looking forward to hearing comments from my colleagues.

Does cheerleading count as an organized sport?

Also, I think section five is very broad.  How much would it cost to give every child in the country playground equipment?

I would count it as such, yes.

The section is supposed to refer specifically to equipment for organized sports to low income children. Perhaps we could set an income level to define "low income"?

I would support setting a cutoff, so it doesn't get abused mercilessly. Say 150% of the poverty line?

I'd be willing to work with this.

Bump

I would be willing to table this if there isn't a lot of interest in passing it right now.
