I hope Carper retires - Rochester would be a better senator, but she's about the last person to primary her mentor.

Amy Klobuchar finally has an opponent: State Representative Jim Newberger - third term, represents a rural area near St. Cloud.

"Klobuchar has a distinct advantage heading into next year's election." Right.

Barasso, Fischer and Hirono all come to mind.
They'll find someone even if it's a perennial candidate.

The media circus around a Jenner candidacy won't be the type that helps her campaign. And if you've actually seen her speak on policy, you get the distinct impression that her campaign would follow a trajectory more similar to Ben Carson's than Donald Trump's.

Jenny Wilson and Danny Drew are running. If no one else jumps in, Wilson is certainly more likely to be the nominee. She is on the Salt Lake County Council.

Matheson wouldn't be a sacrificial lamb. He'd put the seat into play. Hatch is a pretty weak incumbent because people think it's time for someone new, and Matheson is a juggernaut.

It's Utah. Hatch owns the seat until he leaves or is defeated in a primary. No democrat is kicking him out.

Crapo was opposed by write-in Democrat Scott McClure, who got slightly under 1% of the vote.[/quote]

The sacrificial lamb will likely be some Democrat, perhaps "Stuttering John" Melendez.

Nope. You clearly don't know anything about Matheson. Or Utah.

Sessions had write-in opponents in 2014. Crapo faced write-in Democrat Scott McClure in 2004. Thune in 2010 was the only one who didn't face any opposition at all. Fischer will likely face Democrat Jane Raybould from Lincoln in November. Barasso and Hirono don't have any opponents yet.
