I agree with you on Eagleton too but I didn't count him as he was forced off the ticket and replaced by Shriver before the election

You have an interesting list, especially on the Republican side, I prefer George H. W. Bush to Ronald Reagan as well but I think Reagan was the right man for the job at that time so I didn't put them on my list, afterwards the one I find very interesting is for Nixon over Eisenhower, why would you have prefered Nixon (just out of curiousity)?

Then for FDR in 1920, he was definitely better than James Cox with hindsight but too inexperienced for the presidency at that point

Absolutely, that's what I've always thought myself, Dole could have been a good president 10 or 20 years earlier but by 1996 his time had passed.

For Nixon and Eisenhower, I agree with you that Nixon was a very talented man who would probably be remembered as one of our better presidents had it not been for Watergate, on the other hand Eisenhower if anything I think is underrated, even if I don't agree with everything he did I think overall he did a very good job and was arguably our best post-war president.
