He should run for GA senate in 2020 against Perdue. He's young, passionate energetic, handsome, and Jewish. I think 2020 will be a Democratic wave year. He could win. I hope his political career isn't over.

he blew it, but if he's lucky he could run for a state legislative seat and then go again for a representative seat sometime in the 2020s.

John Lewis is getting old, and may retire soon. Maybe with his blessing, Ossoff could be defacto coronated as rep of GA 5th.

Yes, of course. He's only 31, and Georgia is trending Democratic long-term. I wouldn't be surprised to see him win a house or senate seat at some point.

It's a Black VRA seat, I'd expect Lewis's successor to be Black. I'd imagine he'd prefer a minority succeed him, and Black primary voters probably would too.

I think if he wants he can run in either 2018 or 2020 in a democratic wave and win a house seat then if democrats do well

I expect GA-6 will continue moving left as the years go by. Ossoff is still young, so I can see him going for federal office again once he builds up some experience and learns how to run a decent campaign.

Cough cough, Steve Cohen... I think there is something special in Ossoff too, maybe even special enough to become the Steve Cohen of GA 5th.

Yes - he is a better fit for Georgia statewide (or perhaps a state leg seat) than for the 6th.

Yes, if GA becomes a solidly Democratic state.

This, and I could see him winning the open Senate seat in 2022.
Or an earlier special election if Isakson resigns.

At minimum he can find a job on the Hill, I'm sure.

He was a former Lewis staffer, right?

I think he can win the Georgia governorship if he plays his cards right. Senate will be substantially harder before 2026 or so. Very solid candidate for the district; performed better than Hillary. Sadly, could not make any gains among Republicans from April to June due to the despicable ads aired against him by the big money outside GOP groups.

I wouldn't count on it, but it's possible. He has broad name recognition, which could set him up for running for governor. I guess Ossoff running for governor is a bit of a long shot.

His loss was pretty humiliating, so I'll say he's finished.

Maybe. He has high name recognition, he's demonstrated a strong aptitude at fundraising, and he's young. He'll still be younger than your median Congressman if his next run for office is a special election in 2037.

But he should probably sit the 2018 cycle out. Defeated special election candidates virtually never win the next general election, even if it's a very good year for their party (I think Colleen Hanabusa is the one exception this century, and that was under clearly exceptional circumstances), but they can sometimes come back later with some success.

Sure he does. Bush Jr and Obama both failed at this same task, look where they ended up. It'll take distance and discipline, but it's doable.

It depends on how Georgia is redistricted after 2020. There could very well be another swing/Dem seat created in that area.

I concur with the judgment that he will have some future in politics eventually. I also concur with the comment that he should sit the 2018 cycle out. Unless Trump completely implodes I have a hard time seeing him winning the regular election in 2018 against Handel--Scott Holcomb could work but probably doesn't have the guts to run since he sat this one out. Maybe wait until 2022 and see how the new GA map looks like and run for a congressional seat that's more Dem-leaning--I expect to see Georgia going blue (either gubernatorial or senate) in 2022.

Yes, why not? Other dudes who lost much bigger in more important races managed to come back. And he's still very young. He either runs again for congress or the senate. Another option would be a position in a future Democratic Administration. The latter seems the most likely one to me (as of now).
