I'm preparing to go to the Rubik's Cube US Nationals 2017 next weekend, so I probably won't be able to post quite as much. I will still be able to check in a few times to see if there's anything I need to do regarding the Chamber of Delegates, it's mainly that next weekend I'll be quite busy with competing and practicing and doing other things. I'll try not to bore everyone too much with the details.

Del, I didn't mean to say that Midwesterners WERE more "dignified" in their conservatism, just that maybe they fancied themselves so. Wink

The Midwest has not been a historically conservative region , most of the conservatives Uptil 1994 came from the Western States or the northeast . Only state from Mideast that I would say has had notable conservatives were from Ohio

What?!  FDR's strongest opposition was from the Plains.  It was the first region to totally turn on the New Deal.

not midwest

Voted non-binary because I misread the poll.

I actually think "non-binary" is the ONLY correct way to approach gender, since "male" and "female" are arbitrary roles that no real human being can actually fit.

why did merkel voted against gay marriage? is germany so homophobic that she decided to vote against because of election, or is it just because of her homophobia?

This is interesting, don't you think:

A person who thinks that gay people should be allowed to have civil unions but not marriage rights, would have been...

- A radical in the 1950s
- A liberal in the 1970s
- A moderate in the 1990s
- A conservative in the 2010s
- A reactionary in the 2020s

A phobia is defined as an irrational fear. Claiming that all people opposed to gay marriage are afraid of homosexuals is a ridiculous argument.

"Homophobia" is not literally a fear of gay people, despite the origins of the term "phobia." It encompasses a wide net of negative emotions towards LGBTs.

Though this:
I figure as long as I don't mix up North and South Dakota, North and South Carolina, or Virginia and West Virginia, I'll be alright.

takes a close second.

Well, this is obviously DOA in Congress, which is sad, since Puerto Ricans are Americans, and yet many members of Congress can easily just ignore that because... reasons.

The goal should be to make this as big a political issue as possible. If it's really DOA (which I'm not entirely convinced it is) we need to make it clear how racist the Republicans are being.

As well as the disgustingly racist 77% of Puerto Rican voters who did not vote for statehood.  They must be exposed.

1. They didn't vote against statehood--they just didn't vote.
2. That's a different issue altogether. The people of Puerto Rico have made a decision, and Republicans should follow their party's platform and honor that decision.

Happy early/belated birthdays, CXS and Haslam!

If that one doesn't count,

I mildly disliked him before, but now that I've seen what he posted recently, I think he's absolutely awful. Sorry you had to deal with that, Peebs.

As an aside, I hate when people who aren't in Congress identify as "Blue Dog Democrats."

I've always thought the phrase "government shutdown" promises more than it delivers. I expect to walk outside and for it to be like The Purge or something.
