They are playing on the same weekend. Jawbreaker at Riot Fest in Chicago, Rainer Maria in Minneapolis.

Jawbreaker
Pros:
-While hotels in Chicago will be quite expensive, I can just stay with my girlfriend so I have an advantage over most travelers.
-I can also spend time with my girlfriend.
-Riot Fest is huge and probably has some other good bands playing.
-It's f[inks]ing Jawbreaker. Arguably the single most influential band of the 20th century (in terms of music that matters.)

Cons:
-Annoyance of travel.
-Riot Fest is expensive and most of the bands on it are mainstream ones or ones I wouldn't be into.
-I'd have to either leave my girlfriend at home, or have her come with despite the cost to something I'm not sure she'd totally enjoy.
Total costs (before food and drinks) would probably be well over $200.

Rainer Maria
Pros:
-Local and easy to get to.
-Only $20 + drinks.
-I'll be seeing my girlfriend in a week at an Ingress event anyway.
-To be honest I personally like them more than Jawbreaker, even if Jawbreaker is the far more important band.

Cons:
-Well there really aren't any to seeing them, just the lack of pros above.
-Well I guess it's a smaller show so less opportunity to see other bands. It'll basically be them plus 2-3 openers, and who knows if I'll even care about them.

So?

Go to Riot Fest dude. Pennywise, Cap'n Jazz, Say Anything, Best Coast, Beach Slang, and Hot Water Music are also playing that day. Lots of good stuff.

BRTD, there are numerous bands more influential than Jawbreaker, and you can't just go "blue avatar, your opinion is irrelevant". I knew you were pretentious, but come on.

What I was amazed at is that a blue avatar likes Jawbreaker.

Implying that only music you like matters is very pretentious, I would argue. For example, I dislike some types of rap music, but the cultural impact of it is undeniable.

I mean, I'll certainly acknowledge they're required listening for fans of the genre, and absolutely a classic, but I'll admit I've found it stale recently.

I will credit them for leading me into other bands like Joyce Manor and Sorority Noise, and thus Punk/Hardcore/Indie onward though.

I find it a bit odd for brtd to call Jawbreaker the most influential band ever, even if we take it to just be for the genre. I would argue that both Sunny Day Real Estate and CaP'n Jazz/American Football are far more "influential" to the second wave of emo, even if Jawbreaker was certainly the most successful.

Anyway, seeing Riot Fest would be awesome if I could make the time for it, but alas. So I would say go to both if you could.
