My mom is an Indian-Madagascarian, originally from Mahajanga but having roots in Gujarat.

Gujarati on my mom's side, Anglo-Scot white on my dad's. I have only lived in the United States.

The last Republican I would've supported is Nelson Rockefeller.

I differ with many (far-left) Democrats on Israel (I support it wholeheartedly), guns (Second Amendment, people), raising the minimum wage ($15 is infeasible. Tie a slightly higher wage to inflation.) and I disagree with both Dems and Reps on ag subsidies (I believe we need to completely reform the system). I also think Democrats should stop choosing social issues as the hills to die on.

Why did your mom decide to move to South Dakota? Job opportunities? The High Plains (and American rural areas in general) aren't exactly known as a magnet for immigrants, so it's always interesting when I meet someone who's 1st or 2nd gen from one of these areas.
