As Dean of the Senate, I hereby open the period for nominations and declarations for PPT.

If you have been recently elected or reelected member of the Senate, please swear in today if you have not already.

I'll allow 24 hours for nominations and declarations.  (Ideally we would do this with all six members, but given the special election taking place this weekend, that's not practical right now.)

I would like to nominate myself for the position of PPT.  Should I be elected by this body, I would like to introduce several reforms to the Senate that will increase activity and transparency in the body for the benefit of the game, and radically change the way business is done.

I want to reintroduce the Yankee Rule which requires sponsors to advocate for their bills no longer than 24 hours after a bill is brought to the floor.  In addition, after some private correspondence with the Speaker in the last session, we have agreed that legislation ought to have similar formatting, with the header of each bill stating whether what is being passed is a resolution or a bill/act, as well as a brief summary of the bill's intended effects.  (I realize this second change might be a bit tedious, but I will be happy to amend bills so that the formatting is appropriate.)

I will also be establishing a public Press Room, similar to the one that the House uses, which will briefly outline legislation and amendments that have been passed during the session.

Finally, I want to make sure that senators are doing what their constituents elected them to do: debate legislation.  I won't be PMing people every two days to write five-paragraph speeches on every bill, but I do believe the PPT has a unique responsibility to ensure an active body, as well as maintain a working relationship with House leadership and the administration.  All must be involved in order for the game to function.

It is my hope that we will use our progressive majority to push reforms that will benefit the working people and families of Atlasia.  And with that, I hope I have earned the trust and confidence of my colleagues.  Let's come together to make the Atlasian Senate, The People's Senate.

Having discussed this previously with Senator Scott, I think his ideas will do much to advance the work of the Senate. I am pleased to support him for the role of PPT, and I appreciate having had the confidence of the Senate to serve as its PPT for the past four months.

I second Senator Scott's nomination.

On a personal note, I have had the deep privledge of working with Senator PiT on a number of occasions throughout our respective stints in public affairs, and his actions tonight speak to his deep sense of respect and commitment to the institution of the Senate.

I look forward to, in a personal capacity, of working with him during our time together in this chamber.

Technically it is the "Region's Senate" or "Regional Senate" as opposed to the "People's House". the terms are a call to the Constitutionally defined roles of each chamber. The terminology refers back to Duke's October 2013 consolidation+Bicameralism Plan, which formed a good part of the basis for what came out of the 2015-2016 Constitutional Convention. Because I am a shameless shill for Duke's legacy, I have shoved the phrase People's House down the people's throats.

This is also reflected in the formatting on the bottom of Acts of Congress and Joint Resolutions (ie stuff passing both chambers).

"People's Senate" sounds sexier, though!!   "Regional Senate?"  C'mon.

We will now hold a 24-hour vote on PPT.

By a vote of 4-0, Senator Scott is duly elected Senate PPT.

I would like to thank those who have entrusted their confidence in me.  For my first order of business as PPT, I am appointing Senator PiT to the position of Deputy PPT.

Your signature is better than PiT's, but constantly referring to this as the People's Senate is going to gnaw at me. Tongue

How about "People's Regional Senate". I am all for compromising. Tongue

If you don't like my signature, you shouldn't have left me alone in the South to run the place as I pleased for years. People become odd when they have personal fiefdoms. Wink
