Personally, I do believe there will be a time - probably in our lifetimes, where we'll have an AI, possibly even a superintelligent AI, that could probably run the government far better than we could. At that point I think it becomes a matter of trust. Can you trust a computer that is that smart to have the same goals as you? The same values? Even more so, do you think we could control it, or would it go rogue?

All I know is that it would be a really big waste if we couldn't do it one day. Humans kind of suck at running things.

If the robot was programmed very well and the other countries had robots representing them, I'd be fine with a robot national ambassador... the robot would be able to translate different languages.  Maybe its a good idea for diplomacy.

For example, I'd much rather have R2D2 as President than Donald Trump. (:

Seriously, do you know ANYTHING about science-fiction? Whatever goal you program into a computer, it will end up doing horrible things to fulfill it.

I just watched "Spock's Brain" last night, where a population's brains had become so "atrophied" owing to their reliance on others (in this case, kidnapped brains), to run every technical detail of their daily lives. That said, the Star Trek episode I love to cite in this regard is the one where people were killed by computer-determined "bombs" that were actually simple orders issued to areas where all people therein had to report for extermination. Once every detail of our lives becomes entirely manageable by technical skill and details, which are therein determined by a computer, there would be no point to life. Ironically, this could create a whole new set of social problems: drug use and suicide would skyrocket.

Only for a highly-advanced one with a strong moral/ethic backup-system, like Star Trek's Data:

An AI like this wouldn't be any worse than Trump, if not better ...

Don't worry, it'll be okay! Why do you doubt the future, the modern world, and technology? Do you hate science and technology?

That was literally one of the dumbest articles I've ever read from POLITICO. And that's saying something.

Would the robot be programmed with Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics?

If so, how could he serve as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces when he is obliged to "not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm"?
