Likely D. If Stewart doesn't galvanize conservatives enough, former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli could enter the race as well.

Virginia Rep. Barbara Comstock should run, but she is one of the most vulnerable House Republicans in 2018, just like how Missouri Rep. Ann Wagner's seat could be vulnerable, and Michigan Rep. Fred Upton's seat could be vulnerable.

However, the most electable Virginia Republicans could be Ed Gillespie, if he fails at the 2017 VA GOV, and Eric Cantor, despite his Beltway insider baggage.

At least both Republicans (and Democrats) know not to underestimate him. I still don't think he'd be a good general election candidate statewide. Virginia is too educated and full of northern Transplants.

I hope he does, tanks tremendously, and drags the VAGOP further down with him.

If he wins the nomination...

Also when I saw on the wiki that he declared I had this reaction.

Does Virginia have open primaries? I would totally troll and vote for Stewart just to make it easier for Kaine.

They do, but the VA GOP requires its voters to sign a pledge to support their party's candidates, fwiw.

Don't underestimate him. He nearly won the nomination last time, and could very easily win the Senatorial nomination, in which case he's just one late-breaking scandal or FBI investigation away from being a Senator.

Yeah, he's not going to win or even come close to it. This person is a good fit for the Republican primary electorate, but a horrible fit for the general election electorate. Even when you consider his primary performance, his worst areas were in the areas where the bulk of the vote is.

Okay. This doesn't change how the race looks whatsoever.

VA GOP was already not moderating enough anyway. I remember hearing that back when Bob McDonnell was Governor, he repeatedly urged the GOP legislature to not be so extreme. They didn't listen.

I know anything can happen, but honestly here's my prediction : Kaine will win by approximately 10 percentage points, especially since he has a stronger name recognition than during his first senatorial election in 2012 for being Hillary Clinton's running mate in 2016.

So, Corey "The South Shall Rise Again" Stewart is running for the Senate? If he gets elected, will he have Confederate battle flags in his Washington, D.C. office?

Oops!  I guess you're right.  It'd be great if parties could just stick a damn policy, so I could keep track of things.  Tongue

Surely he's not going to have an open road to the primary with only (even lesser) cranks against him? Who else is likely to go for the nom?

This race is Safe D regardless of who the Republicans nominate. Virginia is 100% gone for Republicans, especially in federal races.

Stewart's pandering to racists and general lack of sense make him a bad candidate, but he's still better than Ingraham or Fiorina. Being Trump-lite will at least fire up the base unlike those two.

I expect a 53-45 result if he's the nominee, which is pretty likely in my view.

A bit of an overeaction, but it is definitely fading for the GOP.
