What I don't think leftists understand is that Democrats want good relations with Russia. But that doesn't mean we should be letting Trump get away with potentially illegal acts, or not defending our elections from foreign interference. Nor should our relationship with them be based on alt-right ethnic identarianism, because that would exclude some 40% of Americans. But on the fundamental long-term question of U.S.-Russian relations, the left does not seek a return to the Cold War, and does seek positive, constructive relations, just as it does with every country around the world, except for those that are trying to destroy us or are actively at war with us. A distinction has to be made between protecting the integrity of the United States, and foreign policy.
