In excerpts of an interview with U.S. television network HBO, Ramzan Kadyrov, leader of the North Caucasus republic of Chechnya, called for the removal of gay people "to purify the [nation’s] blood."
...
"As for Kadyrov’s interview, frankly speaking, very often, his words are taken out of context,” Vladimir Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.

Peskov added that if the comments were considered in the correct context, "nothing out of the ordinary was said there.”

Peskov is a fool. I've always suspected that he isn't a Putin loyalist - and trust me, Putin's better than Zhirinovsky, Zyuganov, Mironov, or Medvedev, or wherever Peskov's loyalties lie.

Keeping Chechnya was truly a poor interest for Russia... and the natives.

Russian official says something extremely homophobic

News at 11.

But seriously, someone should get the Hague in on this, there is no way that calling for purges is in anyway legal in international law...

I think the Chechen-Russia situation is more directly comparable with Aceh-Indonesia and in all fairness Jokowi hasn't received nearly as much international pressure as Putin.

I understand the parallel, but its more extreme.

I.e. Kadyrov also holds a harem of sex slaves for the officers in his security forces, and his human rights violations are overall worse than in Aceh (not to trivialize what goes on in Aceh).
