What is your opinion on having to create an account in order to post on a message board?

I don't think it's necessarily good or bad, but it's a pain in the ass if the account has to be activated by a moderator or administrator.

I'm on a message board where the main forum is open to anyone, but if you're not a member good luck dealing with the horrible captcha.  There is a board where you must be a member but it's more of an advanced discussion board.

This is a professional type message board even though the website is totally public.

I would certainly make some parts of this forum invisible to lurkers in order to prevent new people coming in solely because of forum dramas. I'm obviously talking about community stuff, not electoral/policy discussions. These should be viewable, period.

Well, as of the entity you're no doubt referring to now, maybe they don't want us to have a "Worst AAD posts" thread, the way they have a thread on "worst Atlas posts".

No, I've never been to AAD.

There is a forum that I've posted on for years. I've had issues with my account and I tried creating a new one. However, the account hasn't been activated as of 2017. When I try to post without logging in, it says, "Posting without being logged in is currently disabled". That is some serious bulls**t.
