It seems pretty clear he was referring to 2018. He probably will run, but is pledging that if he does, he'll be done for good in 2024. Interpret that as you will...

I'm pretty sure he'll still be around in 2033. He might stand down for a brief period like 2008-2012, but he'll be back.

Actually, there have been three historic Tsars named Vladimir, so Putin would be like Tsar Vladimir IV.

But none under the Romanovs or the Russian Empire, only under the Duchy of Vladimir and the old Kiev. He would be Vladimir I under the borders of the Russian Federation.

Oh, great. The funniest thing I ever read was a Facebook post in which someone claimed that Medvedev was "distinctly pro-American" and in no way a Putinist puppet. Even when he was PM, Putin still was the leader of Russia.


I suspect Putin would pass power to either his son-in-law, or a close ally such as Anton Vaino. He doesn't want Medvedev to grow too comfortable with power.

He should let the russians decide, given that he returned the country to proeminence after the awful years following the end of the USSR.

A permanent axis between America and Russia in defense of traditional values, against globalism and radical Islam would extinguish liberalism for good.
