If we are going by that, they each probably have music I like,

sure, me too.  But if I have to listen to generic hippie song (or metal or beatnik) or generic punk song, I'll take the punk song every day of the week.  Maybe metal Mondays and dirty hippie Saturdays

maybe hipster music is any music by bands with pretentious phrases for names?
