A Proclaim from the King:

Two years ago, the Kingdom of Prussia faced a difficult situation.

As a victim of international intrigue and seemingly imminent aggression against our lands, we stood with our esteemed ally King George II of Great Britain and took on the immense challenge of taking on a massive alliance of European powers, including France, Russia, Austria, Sweden and Poland. The odds seemed difficult to beat, and there were many who dismissed our Kingdom on account of those odds and the might of the enemy powers.

But we fought. We stood our ground and fought, not only for our nation and our own future, but for Germany against foreign intervention and aggression, and for the liberty of countless German states against the Holy Roman Empire. It was a costly war, a bloody war, a conflict that threatened to become one of the dreaded Wars of Religion of the past which hurt Europe and its peoples to such a terrible level. Many brave men fell on the struggle, with my own brother Henry meeting death on the battlefield.

And yet, we prevailed.

In Stettin, Gdansk, Torgau, Münich, Salzburg, Vienna, Prague, Ansbach and such other battlefields we won victories of great historical significance and renown, showing the skill and bravery of our soldiers and those of our allies against the odds of superior numbers. Other battles we lost, but these triumphs, which we shall never forget, cemented our victory on this war and the steady departure of enemies from them, up to the point in which we sign this historic Treaty of Prague to end this conflict before it spirals out of control as thousands more die from the plague and different acts of violence.

Brave Prussians! Brave Germans! Brave Allies! I salute you. For more than two years we have fought together and won victories of renown, and one could hardly think of better men to stand beside at a time of controversy and conflict. While not the complete victory some might have wished for, the end of the war is a success on by itself, and not only has the Kingdom of Prussia proved itself to be one of the great powers of Europe, we have expanded to a significant degree, strengthened the nation, liberated ourselves from the yoke of the Holy Roman Empire, and taken decisive steps for the German estates and princes to work together as one to defend themselves against aggression.

So have our esteemed allies benefited, with Great Britain expanding its colonial holdings in America, Denmark doing the same in India, and the Ottoman Empire winning over key concessions from Austria. Now it is the time to celebrate our triumph, and then to start the hard work towards peace as we help those areas most hit by the war and the coming plague, challenges which we are prepared to face head on. All which has been sacrificed has been for the good of our allies and ourselves, and no sacrifice which we have made has been in vain.

We hope this is the start of a lasting peace in Germany, and we shall endeavor to ensure that such is the case.

Long Live Prussia! Long Live Germany! Long Live our Allies!

ON THE GERMAN LEAGUE:

Celebrating the end of hostilities, His Majesty King Frederick II believes the time has come for the German League to reorganize itself and cement its future. We hereby invite all of the member states to send representatives to the first Council of the German League to be held on the second half of 1759, and we invite the members to choose the location of this council themselves. His Majesty is of the opinion there is much to be discussed, and looks forward to the opportunity of working together with his allies and friends.

Regarding the Treaty of Prague, we wish to note that the Kingdom of Prussia and Corsica considers itself as having left the Holy Roman Empire. We invite all of the members of the German League to leave the Empire as well in order to better strenghten the League itself and to the evident benefit of those members, no longer subject to the Imperial yoke and now part of a League on which they voice counts more than ever.

We stand by our previous measure to significantly lower tariffs to all member states, but we wish to offer an immediate incentive to foster economic recovery following the end of the war. We will hereby lower tariffs by 50% to those member states who confirm their departure from the Holy Roman Empire. We hope this measure will promote a large increase in trade across the German League, and provide additional revenue to member states to rebuild any economic losses from the war as well as develop their own local economies. We believe there is much work to be done on tariffs and toll barriers, but this is a radical, yet crucial first step we are confident on taking.

Addtionally, members states of the German League who confirm departure from the Holy Roman Empire will also be guaranteed further Prussian investment on their own industries, Prussia inviting as well investment on its own enterprises and industries from the League.

IVAN VI MURDERED IN ISTANBUL!

With news of the peace spreading throughout Europe, the widespread feelings of joy in many realms were replaced by one of shock. Ivan VI, the would-be Tsar, rescued from captivity by Prussian Agents at the beginning of the war, was brutally assisinated in Istanbul.

Ivan had been roaming through the streets of the city, taking advantage of relative anonymity, when he was cornered by a man in black and ran through with a sword. By the time his guards arrived and aprehended the suspect, the boy was near death. He survived a couple of hours more, long enough to will that his claim to Russia ought to go to "Frederick, my beloved father".

The boy Tsar had been staying the the Ottoman capitol in order to be protected from potential attacks by either Austrian agents or allies of Catherine. Nevertheless, someone seems to have let the news slip, with the prime suspect being accused as one of the spies for Catherine in Istanbul. Though the man has had his tongue cut out by furious jailors, it is widely attested among Ottoman officials that there is convincing evidence of foreign involvement.

Many mourn for Ivan, who managed to catch up despite years of solitude and isolation. The boy had come to greatly admire Frederick of Prussia, who he reportedly referred to as his "true father". The Cossacks fighting for his cause in Russia have apparently been struck by a high amount of disorder following the news, with some wanting to return home, others hoping to back Peter, and a third ground now in favor of infant Paul.

His Sacred and Imperial Majesty wept upon hearing news of dastardly murder of Tsar Ivan. He was a brave and noble young man, who despite enduring terrible torment from those who usurped his rightful crown, managed to rise and fight back. His tormentors, terrified of his star shining ever brighter, retorted to a way of cowards, the assassin's' blade. Furthermore, His Sacred and Imperial Majesty sorrows this happened when he was Ivan's host. It's a terrible thing for any devoted Muslim to see his guest harmed.

While the Topkapı Sarayı is to adhere to official mourning over the tragic and despicable murder of Tsar Ivan, His Sacred and Imperial Majesty, no matter how wounded his own soul was, cannot possibly deny his loyal subjects right to celebrate the successfull outcome of the war. There shall be festivities to celebrate our victory.

The Sublime Porte does not believe, as there are no indications whatsoever, the Austrians had anything to do with Ivan's murder. It's even a possibility the real culprits wanted to sabotage peace process between the two realms. Although the suspect should be obvious, no further comment shall come until the investigation is properly conducted.

ON IVAN VI:

His Majesty the King is not ashamed to admit he wept at the news of the murder of young, brave Ivan VI.

Ever since the dramatic nature of his plight became known, His Majesty felt concerned about the fate of a rightful monarch imprisoned and tortured by the tyranny of the usurper Elizabeth Petrovna. And once Ivan was rescued from such a terrible existence, His Majesty was sincere on his belief that Ivan ought to be restored to his rightful throne, and treated with all the kindness that was necessary to repair the wounds on the soul of this young man.

Many dismissed him, believing the harm done by years of captivity and torture had done too much damage to the young man. But slowly and sure he learned, he worked, he wrote, he read, he grew, and he became more and more aware of his duty, of his fate, of the need for a true and just sovereign for Russia at a time on which its peoples suffer from a group of usurpers, Catherine being only the most recent. Overcoming the toll of his captivity, young Ivan surprised us all with his nobility and his undeniable skill.

And now he is murdered. Murdered! Dead at the hands of a foreign agent, despite all the effort we placed on keeping this young man safe. There is only one culprit in our minds, and that can only be the usurper Catherine, so desperate to hold onto her bloody, stolen throne that she would murder young innocent men for the sake of her cause. He was noble, courageous, determined. And now he is gone. If there is any justice on this world, we believe the day will come when Catherine is punished by God himself due to her many unspeakable crimes.

His Majesty weeps at the news that young Ivan had come to consider him a father, moved to his very soul, shaken to his own nature, by his will stating that his rightful claim to Russia ought to him.

His Majesty will be clear. He does not intend, nor now nor ever, to claim any sort of right over Russia and its peoples. But he is duty bound to see that they are protected, free from a tyrant such as Catherine. To us, there is only one man who be the Tsar that Russia requires right now. A true, just, honest ruler, compassionate enough to aid his peoples and bring them to prosperity. That man is Peter III, who we know recognize formally and without question as the one, rightful Tsar of All Russians, crowned and anointed in Moscow not long ago.

We celebrate the bravery and skill of Peter, his accomplishments and victories, and we look forward to his reign. We believe a closer relationship between Prussia and Russia is a goal we should aspire too, and we continue to see Peter as nothing less than a close friend to Prussia and to the King personally.

But we will not forget about Ivan, and his legacy.

And with God and Europe as our witnesses, we will make sure the cause he stood for, the necessary improvement of the lives of countless Russians, is achieved at the end. We will commission many different forms of honoring his memory, from a public memorial in Berlin near the one devoted to the victory at Salzburg, to plays, songs, poems and such other works.

The void left by Tsar Ivan IV will never be filled. Yet, as hard as it is to ponder over now, the Russian people deserves someone to carry on. Peter Fyodorovich is a grandson of Peter the Great and thus is clear next in line of succession to the throne usurper Catherine, a nasty woman of no Russian blood whatsoever, is trying to steal. He is now the rightful Emperor and Autocrat.

In recognition of His Sacred and Imperial Majesty the Sultan's Christian and Jewish subjects' loyalty and contrubutions to the successfull war efforts, as well as in recognition of a need for deeper reforms across the Empire, it is decided the Jizya shall be abolished and unified tax code instituted within the period of five years. Because of the scale of this change, it cannot be done overnight.

On The Subject Of Military Reform

It it his Sacred and Imperial Majesty the Sultan’s will that:

1. Recognizing the great experience possessed by them, as well as historical role they played in establishment and defense of the Ottoman State, the Corps of Janissaries shall not be disbanded/absorbed, but transformed into Guard Regiments, similar in line of guard regiments established by Peter the Great in Russia.

2. Recognizing training and mobilisation capabilities are crucial in the modern warfare, the Ottoman Militia shall be established, as a framework for wider, periodical training of manpower, and run by experienced and accomplished officers. The Militia, if mobilized, shall also be available to act in ensuring domestic security.

3. The Ottoman artillery must be modernized and expanded, in the line and with cooperation of our Prussian ally.

Yet Another Decree

1. With the war efforts ending, His Sacred and Imperial Majesty orders that an appropriate amount of spare resources shall be used as a relief for his subject in Egypt, suffering after bad harvest.

2. In order to avoid such developments in the future, His Sacred and Imperial Majesty orders, that a new governmental body shall be created and tasked with a) Gathering and maintaining strategic reserve of grain and other long-preserved food items. b) Preparing contingency plans to deal with the consequences of bad harvest, as well as account for other disasters. c) Organize and maintain an infrastructure to carry out its tasks.

We are proud to see the allies of Denmark-Norway-Iceland have joined us in our support of Peter III. With Ivan IV's tragic death, Russia may see hope. To Catherine of Russia, we boldly declare our entire backing of Peter III and pledge our utmost support to his cause. We have been first among the nations to declare Peter III our ally, and, once he wins, we wish to sign a full alliance and friendship. For now, we can offer only our funds and friendship, for our honor to treaties is as great as our love for Peter III.

In the name of His Sacred and Imperial Majesty the Sultan:

Let it be known that a woman named Sophie Friederike Auguste zu Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg, also using a false name of "Catherine Alekseevna", who is already undoubtedly guilty of usurpation and Lèse-majesté, is now considered a fugitive, pursed by the Ottoman justice for the heinous murder of the noble Emperor Ivan IV, committed on the Ottoman soil. If apprehended, she shall face the severest retribution of the law as a common criminal.

May God have mercy on her wretched soul.

News: Jan-Jun 1759

FREE REPUBLIC OF POLAND DECLARED!
MOLDAVIA REBELS FROM OTTOMAN RULE, PROCLAIMS SISTER-REPUBLIC!
When June 1st came and went without the Prussians returning Alexander II, the National Assembly decided to take matters into its own hands. After a period of secret meetings and agreements by the Radical Party, it was universally decided that the monarchy in Poland was finished. A declaration to that effect was decreed on June 5th, amid widespread public celebration. Symbols of royalty were removed from buildings and churches, the crown was melted down, and other monarchs of Europe (Frederick II, Francis of Lorraine, Catherine, Adolf Frederick) were burned in effigy by mobs of jubilant citizens.

Drawing on Poland-Lithuania's history of Royal Elections, the delegates have announced the birth of "the Free Republic of Poland-Lithuania". The National Assembly has been established as the permanent governing body in the realm, with elections henceforth being held every 5 years. Those few Royalists and moderates remaining in the government have been brutally expelled (see above) and, without any real opposition, more reforms have been passed in Poland.

The currency of the realm, facing high inflation, was quickly replaced. Further investigation by several officials has revealed the Prussians to have been shipping in false coins by the wagonload, much to the chagrin of most Poles. The Church has also been facing increased scrutiny, with the size of its domains being cut down. Though it retains the majority of its property for the time being, some officials are already questioning whether religious orders such as the Jesuits ought to be outlawed, viewing them as a waste of potential manpower.

The most shocking incident with the Revolution did not occur in Poland, but beyond its borders. The discontent in Moldavia finally exploded upon news of the Polish Republic reaching Iași. Despite Ottoman attempts at conciliation, the people rose up in the streets, evicting Prince Ioan Teodor Callimachi and denouncing his as an Ottoman lapdog. Garrisons were either expelled or murdered and within days the Republic of Moldavia was declared. One of its first moves was to send envoys to Warsaw to ask for aid. Thus far the Republic of Poland has been silent, but some are terrified it may set a dangerous precedent if it should attempt to spread the Revolution by arms. Ottoman reaction likewise remains to be seen, though they did manage to keep ahold of the coastal region on behalf of their vassal. The potential for conflict in Eastern Europe, so soon after peace in the west, remains very real.

British Settlers Attacked in North America! Iroqouis, Cherokee, and other tribes declare war!

Upset of Britain's determined and rapid expansion in North America, a group of native delegates took their concerns to the British government in London. They demanded an agreement of no further expansion beyond the Appalachians and that no settlers could enter their lands. When George II replied that he would be willing to forbid settlement beyond the Mississippi, but not the Appalachians, they felt insulted and betrayed. After having lost men in the fight against the French, the tribes believed they were more than justified in their demands.

This culminated in disaster for some of the early British settlers in northern New York and across the Appalachians. The Iroqouis, Cherokee, Wabnaki, and many other tribes along the colonial borders have declared war against Britain and brutally raided the small, lightly defended frontier communities. Settlers have been massacred, trade halted, and communication damaged. There are reports of tribal forces assembling, hoping to move the new war into the much more settled lands along the Coast, though the colonists in these areas have been forming militia to stop them. Virginia, New York, New Hampshire, and Georgia have all called for aid from London in ending this new Indian War. Whether or not Britain will be able to defend its new territories will be an important test for the future of North America.

Frederick Buys Hanover, Germans Frightened by the Rapid Growth of his Kingdom!

Prussia has now doubt been on the ascent, with the gains made in the recent treaty only confirming their rise. During the past few years in fact, that realm has enjoyed phoenomenal growth, with gains taken from Sweden, Poland, Saxony, and Austria. While this may cause great joy in Berlin, some other powers on its borders have become frightened for Frederick's expansionism. Their fears were seemingly confirmed when it was announced that the King of Prussia was also purchasing the Kingdom of Hanover from George II, further enlarging his realm. Even members of the German League, ostensible allies of the Prussians, have reportedly been second-guessing their close ties, fearing they are next. While they remain committed to their alliance, they have vocally demanded that Frederick decree his borders to be set at their current limits in Europe. How he responds could determine the dynamic of the German League going forward.

The French Raj
With the gains made in Bengal, the government of France was made aware to the massive potential in India. Following Maratha advancement north, invading one of the minor post-Mughal states, Paris accepted the offer of the remainder of the free territories to become protectorates, in return for the maintenence of most local customs. The local leaders were afraid of losing their newfound independence of the Maratha Confederacy and viewed a French alliance as the lesser of two evils.

French power in Northern India was then confirmed by the sudden, though successful, assault on Delhi. An Expeditionary force of thousands surprised the demoralized capital, which surrendered after only a few weeks of siege. With the Treaty of Delhi, signed shortly afterwards, the descendants of Timur have lost their last realm in the world. Centuries of Mughal rule have come to an end, with the last Emperor killing himself upon learning of the loss of his city. Some have proclaimed a new era in India, the French Raj. Even so, their rule remains confined to the north and powerful local states remain.

The Fate of an Empire

German League (Green), Holy Roman Empire (Blue)

With the signing of peace between Prussia and Austria, the Holy Roman Empire was undoubtedly weakened. Nevertheless, it survived. In the weeks following the agreement most members of the German League took their opportunity and left. This included Mecklenburg, Oldenburg, Hesse-Kassel, Brunswick, Hanover, and others. Most notable however, was the decision of the Duke of Wurttemburg to leave, even though this meant his realm would be cut off from his allies and surrounded by the Empire. For him it was a matter of principle and when the Austrians then refused to return his family, tensions ensued. Wurttemburg and Hohenzollern have been cut off by an Imperial Embargo, the Duke has appealed directly to Prussia to intercede on his behalf, and some fear this could cause further disorder in the Empire.

FRENCH MERCENARIES ARRIVE IN RUSSIA! SWEDES EXPELLED FROM RIGA
Following the attempt by Prussia and her allies to send mercenaries to fight against Catherine in Russia, the French government responded in kind. There was a general feeling in Paris that since the Prussians had viewed it acceptable to send men, France should as well. Thousands of men were assembled at Rouen, primarily German veterans of the Imperial League, and were ferried to Riga, where they assaulted the vastly outnumbered Swedish forces and retook the city. Swedish command in Latvia was too surprised to organize any sort of effective resistance.

Meanwhile, to the east, war continued to rage throughout Russia without any clear winners. Catherine’s men sent to fight the remaining Cossacks in arms were somewhat successful, though many former backers of Ivan VI were determined to keep fighting, only now for Peter III.

A large battle was held between the Swedes and Russians at St. Petersburg though, with it ending up a stalemate. While the Russians enjoyed numerical superiority, they overestimated their advantage due to the sudden arrival of more men to reinforce the Swedish Northern Army. In the resulting Battle of St. Petersburg, thousands on both sides were killed. Russian morale was not helped by thousands of Poles deserting in order to avoid being branded traitors in their homeland. The Swedes held the field, forcing the Russian command to retreat and regroup. They then captured the city, but control little of the surrounding area.  Overall, the fight in the north remains very much in play.

Likewise, the attempt by Catherine to expel Peter III from Moscow was a stalemate. Unlike in the North, here her armies were in a minority, due to surging support for her opponent. Catherine was branded the “Empress of Chains” by her former husband, who reminded the peasants she intended to re-enslave them while he fought for their freedom. In the Battle of Moscow thousands were killed on both sides, with it still remaining unclear who will control Russia. Some have noted that Peter’s losses were quite heavy though, and many of his soldiers have been noted for their laxed discipline following the bloody event.

Ferdinand VI dies in Madrid! Charles Bourbon Declared Charles III! Third Treaty of Vienna violated?
Spain had been a neutral power throughout the duration of Ferdinand VI's reign, many praising his ability to prevent the deaths of his subjects in an expensive war. The King had not only saved the lives of his people, but expanded his realm due to the purchase of New Orleans from the French. Thus, when he quietly passed away on May 3rd, an intense period of national mourning began. The Royal Funeral in Madrid saw thousands of subjects lining the roadside, crying for their former King. In the immediate aftermath, Elizabeth Farnese set herself up as regent, governing in the name of her eldest son.

Ferdinand VI's death has  brought about great uncertainty in Europe. Before his passing, the late King had decreed that Charles, his half-brother, could maintain both the Spanish and Neapolitan realms despite the Third Treaty of Vienna, which stated they could not be held by one sovereign. Charles, taking the name Charles III of Spain, has proclaimed his intention to hold both Naples and Spain despite open objections by several minor powers, who fear Spain is reviving itself as a Great Power in Europe for the first time since the War of the Spanish Succession. The reactions of the major European powers, Austria and France in particular, will be important in determining whether his decision to restore Spanish sovereignty in Italy stands.

"Francis the Filthy"? Rumors Abound About the Emperor's Affairs

With the loss of Bohemian territory and the Duchy of Pannonia, there were many in Austria who were willing to believe the worst about Francis of Lorraine. When a series of anonymous pamphlets appeared denouncing him and revealing an affair with Maria Wilhelmina von Neipperg, thousands were willing to read. These lurid tales told of Francis abandoning his wife, even during the loss of Vienna, to spend time with his mistress, the Princess of Auersperg.

This story has outraged many conservatives and clergy, especially due to the fact both the Emperor and Princess were married, but many officials have denounced the it as foreign propaganda. Even so, it is notable that Francis’ son and heir Joseph was cold to his father upon his return, reportedly having been informed of the tales by subjects on his way through Bohemia. Many in Austria, Hungary, and Bohemia are now looking to young Joseph as the future of Austria and the Empire, a role he seems to embrace.

PLAGUE SPREADS TO AUSTRIA, BAVARIA, ITALY

Despite joint efforts among Austrian officials to prevent the spread of the Plague, it continued to creep north. The Ottoman tactics in the south, burning whole villages to stop the spread, proved to be effective, with the disease seeming to halt in Greece and Bulgaria before slowly cooling down. Even so, thousands of former subjects lie dead and there are some who were upset over the loss of their property in the fight against the diease.

In the north however, the Austrians watched with horror as the sick and dying appeared first in Vienna, then the recaptured city of Prague, and eventually in Milan. Bavaria likewise witnessed the horror of the disease, thousands alone dying in Munich. Reports are already surfacing that it it spreading west and north, with rulers in Ansbach and Westphalia attempting to divert its frightening advance, though some are questioning what can be done.

1) The humanitarian mission, while lnviously less sucdessful than hoped, still gave hope to thousands displaced by conflict. All nations are encouraged to undertake their own missions to the former zones of conflict in order to enhance the recovery of the displaced.

2) A final warning is being issued to the Corsairs. Should they continue their harassment of us, they shall be met with the full force of the Venetian military and  possible invasion of their territory. It is their decision. We certainly do not wish to escaalate, but we will take all necessary measures to defend our people.

3) The League of Armed Neutrality will continue its police of neutrality. However, we are skeptical of the claims that Prussia knew nothing of the violations of the Treaty of Paris. If Prussia did indeed know nothing, then we would in turn welcome additional security and funds for future aid missions.

The Madness of King George

It is up to me, long the deliverer of ignored truths, to express aloud the thought going through every Court in Europe. Over the last several years all Christendom watched with muted fascination as King George of England persecuted his Irish subjects and abandoned his People's hard-fought gains in India without cause or reason. Taken as sole incidents, perhaps caused by the stress of war, his conduct was explained away.

But now, peace has set in. Now, England has no more excuses to fall back on. The decision of King George to abandon his homeland and hundred of thousands of souls whom he ruled over for longer than he has ruled England without reason or justification must lead to one simple conclusion. We conclude that George II, King of England, has gone mad. Neither the Empire nor the Hapsburg realms wish for the resumption of war; it is out of respect for the English people and pity for their current situation that we must announce the obvious, not some desire to undo what has been done.

We call upon the King's able ministers and on George, the Prince of Wales, to intervene for the sake of the English people and the English Crown. Control your King! The harm he has already done to your realm is obvious; control him before his madness strikes again!

We, the king of Denmark-Norway, demand France withdraw its troops from Russia. By attacking Peter III and his allies, they are attacking an ally of Denmark-Norway. Please stop, or we will be forced to see this as no less or more than an attack on Denmark itself. The legitimacy of Peter III will not be questioned!

We furthermore recognize the Republic of Poland-Lithuania, though we condemn their conduct towards the Royalists and moderate Radicals in strong terms.

I will remind the certain parties that the Hapsburg Monarchy remains committed to its treaty of mutual defense with the Kingdom of France. Should any country attack the French(and nobody would view such an attack as anything but brazen and blatant aggression) they would quickly find themselves at war with Austria and the Empire as well.

Has anyone threatened the French? Truth be told, belligerence is the pretty part of Paris and the very vice of Vienna. We will conduct talks with neutral powers to find an appropriate response to such a flagrant show of imperialism and dishonor for the treaty.
