Western libertarian society is genuinely sociopathic.
This, absolutely this. The way we behave actually does affect other people, and this will always be the case no matter how much the cult of individualism tries to wish it away.
We can never escape the impact others have on us, nor our impact on others. If it was not for socialization, humans could not even speak (consider the cases where a child was raised in the wilderness or in isolation). We're inescapably social animals. As persons, we should have our respected rights to self-expression, freedom of thought, and so on, just as we should have rights to material and cultural resources to empower us to live fulfilling lives. At the same time, we cannot use those rights at the expense of others. So, a balance must be struck with the goal of achieving a harmonious community.
Anyone who thinks rabid individualism leads to anything but despair shows they don't understand the foundational qualities of what makes us human.
