It's not possible to "win" something that is not contested.

Clearly with this sham Election Commission and Kobach's witch hunt, it IS being contested.

Well, I'm not going to defend Trump's fragile ego.

Not surprised. Most people don't pay attention to election results after the election is called. When the election was called for Trump he was up in the popular vote. I still know people who think Romney won the popular vote (because he was up in the PV when Obama won).

Unsurprisingly, polls have consistently shown large numbers of people are highly ignorant of basic political facts (like which party controls Congress, or who the Vice President is).

Most people think based on what they feel not actual facts. Not surprising.

I do too. She says only Obama voters committed any voter fraud, and that both Trump and Clinton voters committed voter fraud, but Johnson and McMullin voters didn't.

Yeah, I've run into at least two people IRL who thought that. Didn't know it was even in dispute.

Wasn't Bush winning the popular vote over Gore until the next morning?

Wait----

Are you talking about me!!!!    Wink    (Actually I voted for Nader in '00 FWIW)

I did spend about 30 hours going through precinct level results in Ohio after the '04 election, trying to locate the conspiracy theory running around on DailyKos and the like that voting machines were hacked by Diebold....

I discovered the amazing result that..... there were no irregular voting results caused by hacking of various machines in counties where Diebold machines were employed.

That being said, I'm a bit more concerned these days about what Russia is up to, since IMHO there are a ton more vulnerabilities to the system when it comes to a full-blown cyberwar effort from a foreign power that has the motives, means, and potentially opportunity to try to actively subvert Democratic elections in the Free World....

Still, on a more serious note, most voters don't necessarily pay attention to the intricacies of the electoral college vs popular vote, nor totally understand how what is a pretty weird and fairly undemocratic election system works.

I'll give the 50% of Trump voters a pass on this one, unless they are the fringe conspiracy movement that somehow believes that "illegal immigrants caused HRC to win the popular vote".... Maybe that is 10-20% of Trump voters, but the rest are probably like many Americans that conflate the electoral college with the popular vote.
