Indeed, Id say the right is about 35-40% of anti-vaxxing at most

To be fair, it isn't exclusive to Republicans.

I don't understand why suddenly people think vaccines cause diseases like autism. Many medical experts have said otherwise.

Mandatory vaccinations for kids, felonies for anti-vax parents. Period.

Like with many issues, you can find examples of individuals supporting it from across the political spectrum. Unlike with the GOP,  I'm not aware of anti-vaxxing nonsense being prominently supported by Dem politicians and representatives from the party's leader on down. Once again, "both sides do it" is a convenient lie when it comes to defending the deplorable GOP.

Well Trump is the most prominent anti-vaxxer in America, and he has a legion of millions who believe everything he says, so...

Anyway, I'm so thankful I live in a progressive State like Mississippi that doesn't allow any anti-science exceptions to the mandatory vaccination rules. We don't often rank #1 on the good lists, so you know I'm gonna savor this.

Mandatory vaccinations and felonies for parents likely would be unconstitutional.

What experts say hasn't stopped people from believing that climate change isn't at all caused by humans, that race is more than a social construct, etc.

It hasn't been found unconst yet and is considered settled law. All states require mandatory vaccination before enrollment in school.

Epidemics and pandemics should not be started due to one or two parents' belief system. And yes, it only takes one sick kid to spread a contagion via contact, sneezing, etc. This is one area in which the Ayn types are dead wrong.

Arguably it is beyond the power of the federal government to implement such a requirement.

It is clearly constitutional for state governments to require vaccination and make non-compliance a felony, however.

California passed a law that requires parents to vaccinate their children as a requirement to enroll in public school, which is probably the most effective sort of law to keep outbreaks down.

Or, put more bluntly, because people are idiots

I wouldn't go so far as to say "people are idiots" as the reason. I think the two biggest components of anti-vaxxerism is that autism tends to become diagnosable around the same time kids start to get most of their vaccines. It's only human to notice patterns where their are none. Second is that people who are model parents in every way suddenly have a kid who is autistic. The natural reaction is to think "but I've been a good parent, fed them, clothed them, loved them, got them all of their shots, this must be someone else's fault!"

Modern Americans live such high-quality lives (by historical standards) that we have a great deal of difficulty coming to terms with the awful randomness of life.

So many people make things up instead of acknowledging reality. They do this in very focused ways, as with anti-vaxxers. And they do it in huge, sweeping generalizations, like the GOP's pernicious Prosperity Gospel. (It comes in both secular and religious versions.)

Trump is an anti-vaxxer.

In fact several GOP candidates pushed anti-vaxxer stuff at one of the Presidential debates last cycle.

This. I feel the same way about mandatory sex and evolution education in schools.
