My thoughts are that you'll find tons of very happy people in every city on this completely subjective list.  For example, the only girl I know from Rockford is one of the nicest, most well adjusted people I know, and she absolutely loves her home town.  Her pictures she posts of her friends and her having fun by the river at bars make Rockford look far from the 16th worst place to live in the United States.

Other absolute head scratchers are Milwaukee at #6, Knoxville at #23, Cincinnati at #25 (this one is just ridiculous), Chattanooga at #30, Salt Lake City at #32 (absolutely crazy), Indianapolis at #39 (Indianapolis was one of the nicest, cleanest cities I've ever been in) and Kansas City, KS at #49.

I'm sure there are much worse cities to live in, especially if you take a global view....

I'm sorry, downtown Detroit is beautiful.

Plus, if you want a down on it's luck Midwestern city to be the worst, how can you not pick Cleveland?

Plus,

they seemed to weigh crime heavily, which is easy to hide from tourists.  A lot of these cities have sh**t economies too.  Some of them have little to do if you don't like football.  There has to be a worst 50, using the criteria they used, this is the result they got.

1) Who cares about the opinions of people who don't like football? Tongue

2) Seriously, though, there is "something to do" everywhere.  Does it top having a gorgeous beach or breathtaking mountains right by town?  I guess not?  Who cares, though?  In Omaha, you have the College World Series (it's as important to like beer as it is to like baseball to enjoy this one), the Omaha zoo, a great bar scene downtown, a good farmer's market, festivals downtown all year, etc.  What more do people want?

I'll bet 80% of these metro areas swung to Trump. The constant disrespect by the media and coastal elites is not limited to politics.

Exactly, that's why Omaha isn't on this list Wink  Only one city can have the best zoo....though oddly StLouis has a great zoo too, yet they are the 4th worst city?  Yes, because of the crime and sh**tty economy.  Omaha has low crime (if you're white, we are apparently the most dangerous city in America to be black, or at least that was true a few years ago.  They like shooting each other in North O.) and has a broad, modern economy.

LOL, oops, was just trying to pick a place by you!  Another example would be that Indianapolis has absolutely no business being on this list.  A great downtown, some of the nicest suburbs in the country, various marathons and bike races downtown throughout the year, its own great farmer's market, professional and college sports, etc.

As a born and bred Midwesterner, this idea that there's "nothing to do" if you don't live by a mountain or a beach is just strange to me, haha.  As my friends who have visited from states like Connecticut (NYC suburb) and Alabama (Gulf Shores) can attest, we have PLENTY Of fun in the good old Midwest ... we can also drink those pansies under the table with ease. That's where some people tell libertarians to go if we don't like it here.
I think for socialists you should say Caracas now, right if we're going by the current line of thinking.

Well, cost of living was obviously not a factor.
