I and many others have no idea who he is, so a 2020 campaign would go nowhere

O'Malley or Delaney, which Maryland politician's presidential campaign will be more of a joke?

O'Malley, partly b/c Delaney would have less problems funding himself, to a point. Also, it would be verrry hard to have more of a joke campaign that LOLMalley.

Guess this means he may pass on running for governor. He seems to be okay, but he screams DC insider being from Montgomery County.

This district in Maryland is the one district the Republicans are potentially competitive in (excluding the first district which they hold.)

John Delaney is the epitome of "bland, random Congressman that nobody knows or cares about."

I mean...he's in the neighboring district from me, and from everything I can gather he's been a fine congressman, but what the f**k is he thinking running for President? Go for Governor first, man.

Huh

Especially strange as there is nothing in his biography that would suggest delusions of grandeur. Seems like a very run-of-the-mill Democratic Congressman.

Maybe he saw Crossing Delancey and decided it was close enough and he had his own metaphorical bridge to cross.

Lol, what a joke. If he wants to make himself useful, he should challenge Hogan, still less insane than running for the office of the POTUS.

Leave Thaddeus McCotter alone! However badly he looked from his Presidential run and pathetic attempt to run again for his house seat he's a huge and very knowledgeable Bob Dylan fan, so he can't be all bad.

Delaney is pretty wealthy (co-founded 2 companies that are being traded on the NY stock exchange) so I suppose he could atleast self-fund the first stages of a bid to get some name recognition and donors. Anyway, if Trump is our nominee and no centrist Silicon Valley technocrat runs I can see myself getting behind Delaney as he seems to have a bipartisan record. Which is why he isn't going to be the Democratic nominee even if his name recognition increases.

I'd ask who that is but I think me not knowing who he is is the point. Tongue

Did that pilot he wrote ever get leaked? I still want to read it, it sounds unbelievable.

He's gonna really shock some people at the Kiddie Table debate CNN puts on for the bottom 5 candidates in the D field. Pure Delaneymentum from there.

The timing, btw, reminds me of Gary Hart in '84. Hart announced at what the time was an absurdly early date, but it paid off because he had a lot of time to campaign and build up his name rec., and he almost beat Mondale, until the latter "where's the beef?" line just before the critical New York primary. Anyways, Trump is campaigning, so why shouldn't Delaney? If only he wasn't from the D.C. suburbs, his campaign might even have some merit.

Nah, fam. There are going to be two debate tiers here: John Delaney, and his jealous inferiors.

I have to imagine David Trone will run here. Owns a win/liquor distribution company. He finished 2nd, with 27.1%, in 2016 in the MD-08 primary which was the most expensive primary campaign for a house seat in US History. He spent $13 million of his own money on the rice. He actually lives in 6th and in the primary for the 8th, he did really well in the most northern parts of the district, which would be much more important in a primary for the 6th.
