I have no problems if people are okay with some kinds of eugenics, just as I have no problems if some people are pro-choice. That's fine, let's have the discussion. I just prefer that people are out in the open about it. As previous posters have said, anyone who opposes helping people with this technology is a monster. CRISPR/cas is one of the greatest scientific achievments in recent years and has huge potential for medicine and agriculture.

This worries me too. If we can find a way to excise genes like the BCRA breast cancer gene or the gene that codes for defective insulin production thats good. At the same time, when my mom was pregnant with my older brother she was in a bad car accident. My brother had a stroke in the womb which caused noticeable physical and mental developmental issues and a few people tried to steer her towards abortion because they thought my brother might be retarded. He's currently a high school teacher with 2 masters degrees which doesnt prove he's smart but does show he's a perfectly functional member of society. I cringe thinking about a lot of eugenics talk because taken to its extreme, I may never have had a brother because the "experts" were wrong in gauging how defective my unborn brother was. And I will never agree that its better for a retarded person to have never existed rather than living what we may feel is a lesser life.

Not trying to strawman here. This is just a very complex issue and I think we should approach policy with caution and respect for all people, including those with genetic defects.
