Before the 11th grade, we had to choose between the subjects music and art, which we would have to take for at least two years. (In the 13th grade it was an optional subject.)

Which subject would you have chosen?
Consider, in either course we had to write an exam per semester.

Art is a subject that contains of both painting/drawing skills and art history. The students had to do both theoretical and practical stuff for the exams.

In order to attend the music classes we had to prove beforehand that we are able to play a musical piece on a melodic instrument of our choice (i.e. no drums or triangle) or sing a classical song (both in front of a home crowd). We didn't have to do it well, but we had to prove that we are able to read notes and that could transform them into music. During the lessons and exams we didn't need to play or sing a song.

I would have liked to have had art skills, even of the Bob Ross variety, but I didn't, so music it is.  I did enjoy Art History in college though.

Were painting and art history two different subjects at your high school?

I hated both classes in school, but I blame it on poor instructors.

The kids who would have signed up for music would probably be less moody, so I'll take that class.

Art, and I would've hopefully gone on to join my friends in the Chinese ceramics department at a major auction house like Sotheby's or Christie's in Hong Kong.

To my knowledge, there wasn't art history available in HS. I took it in college and there was no attempt at art involved whatsoever.

Art easily. Modern music is influenced by the worst aspects of society, especially glorifying crime and immoral behavior.

I chose to play bass in my school's orchestra in sixth grade, and haven't looked back since.

I had to take both in middle school. I liked art but not music, so art class it is.

Music. It's the one I currently do and it's the one I'm actually good at.

I would've been a music major if only I knew anything about theory whatsoever. I'm a new-wave music hobbyist; classical music bores me and I don't find much enjoyment in listening to music that is considered canonically beautiful.

I always chose music as my art subject because it was a doss and my music teacher always turned up to class drunk.

Now I wish I had taken music more seriously and learned the piano.

We had to take both when we were in junior high but I chose music in high school because I was in the choir and therefore closer to the teacher, although I enjoy music history and art history equally. I loved learning about all of the composers and different time periods. Art history was always the most fun to me when we were studying the Egyptians (the pyramids, the hieroglyphics, the papyrus paper, etc.).
