Nope. If she wants to vote Republican she can go ahead and do that by herself.

Of course. The benefits are much more tangible than my one vote.

Nope. I will not let my vote be influenced by anything but pure logic and concern for the American people and their civilization.

Secret. Ballot. And if your partnership can't survive that level of disagreement or privacy, then what can it survive?

I mean, if your partner would get upset about you voting a different way from them the relationship is probably not a good fit anyway...

My now-wife got in my head a little bit in 2012, and I decided to vote for Johnson rather than Obama, while she voted for Romney. I justified it in my head saying that "I was sending a message" that I wasn't happy with the two party system, but if I did not have her influence at the time I probably would have voted Obama.

This last time around I voted for Hillary and didn't hide it one bit. She voted for Johnson, but if she voted in a swing state she would have voted for Hillary.

Would you say both of you have about equally influenced each other?

Hot take: It depends.

I would listen to what she has to say and take her seriously. Her opinion would be more valuable to me than most other things I can think of in this world, so I would definitely care, especially if she was really passionate about it.  If I still disagreed, I would just tell her that. Have to pick who I think is best after all.

You said "just" though, so I guess what I'm about to say will be more relevant. It would be a lot easier to persuade me if I don't really care about the candidates. Want to know something weird about me? Last year I voted for Bernie Sanders in the NY primary. Because I liked his campaign? Nope! I couldn't have cared less about it tbh and was just going to stay home. It was for 2 reasons. 1) His canvassers bothered to ask for my vote. 2) Because NY election law discriminates against upstate NY so I figured that someone out there who really wanted to vote for him wouldn't be able to and I would cast the vote for them (he was stronger than Hillary in upstate and I would never vote for her in a primary ever). So if I'm willing to do THAT, of course I would do the same for the love of my life.

I mean, I'd ask them to provide me with something that would convince me to vote for the candidate they like, and listen to their reasoning, but I would make no guarantees.

Ain't nobody gonna tell me how to vote.

I already unselfishly please my significant others plenty, I'm voting how I want.

... but I'm not above lying about it if things are just getting started, LOL.

She's not even registered to vote so this scenario won't happen as stated. If it does it'll be the other way around.

Depends how strongly I feel about the issue. I wouldn't be against leaving some spot blank as a cover of plausible deniability though.

I did in a DSA chapter election, but it was more of a "soliciting a second opinion because I thought all three candidates had their merits" situation.
