Gerald Ford has watched as Jimmy Carter, the man who bested him in 1976, has rapidly become one of the most unsuccessful Presidents since Herbert Hoover. He decides to enter the fray.

Is he able to best Reagan a second time for the nomination?
Does he pair up with George H.W. Bush, his onetime CIA Director, and the two decapitate Reagan's forces, with the result being Bush runs as Ford's VP?

If he is nominated, does he beat Carter in November 1980?

Definitely. People would remember having been better off in 1976.

Ford gains the endorsement of Bush, Baker, Anderson, and even Dole. With the nomination, he likely chooses Jack Kemp or James Buckley as his running mate. He might choose a first, such as Edward Brooke, Millicent Fenwick, Margaret Heckler, Nancy Landon Kassebaum, or Carla Anderson Hills, but it seems unlikely.

I don't see a Reagan type win, but still a win for Ford.

Fmr. President Gerald Ford/Rep. Jack Kemp: 361 Electoral Votes
President Jimmy Carter/Vice President Walter Mondale: 177 Electoral Votes
