I'm always interested in learning about ancestry, especially in relation to finding famous ancestors.

Surprised I haven't seen a topic like this on here.

The ancestor that I know of who was the closest to famous was someone who I can't find searching for his name: Josef Geng. I only found out about him through family members.

Apparently, Geng was one of the leaders of a farmers' revolt that fought against church taxes, serfdom, and war in the Austrian Empire. The revolt was defeated, and his punishment was that he was forced to build a wall in Timisoara, a city in modern-day Romania.

My great-grandmother's maiden name was Sinatra. One night, the familia had the chance to encounter "Uncle Frank" after a performance and it appears his people knew the same people as their people back in the Old Country.

Considering that I have a significant amount of Mormon blood, I'm probably at least somewhat related to a bunch of Mormon officeholders.

Not blood relation, but we have half-baked reasons to believe that one of my cousins is the great-granddaughter of Albert Speer.

On a related (mind the pun) note, my paternal grandfather shared an office with James Callaghan during the 1930s.

I'm related Declaration of Independence signer John Hart (I think he's my 7th great-uncle) and his grandfather Edward Hart, author of the Flushing Remonstrance, the first declaration of religious freedom in what would become the US.

Outside of blood relatives, my cousin's dad/my aunt's ex-husband is a relative of Amelia Earhart.

I know I'm a Sayyid despite not being Muslim - well, technically a Mirza, since it's from my mother's side, from India. Maybe a real Sayyid as well, since after all, Queen Elizabeth is a descendant of Muhammad, so my Scottish-anscestry father's side may also have a Spanish Umayyad anscestor.

I'm a distant relative of DNI and former Indiana Senator Dan Coats, if I remember correctly.

After doing research, my bloodline is strangely southern. My grandma was born in Georgia during the depression, however was given up for adoption as a child and was adopted by a New York City family.

Tracing back, dozens of my ancestors fought in the civil war... for the Confederacy. I was able to find out one relative was a Confederate Colonel who was wounded at the Battle of Mannassass (hope I spelled that right). The others I have not been able to find info on engagements, but I was able to find out that they were very poor; most of them being postmen or railroad workers.

Go investigate even further, and my lines converge to those of Robert E. Lee.

I never expected this. At all.

Nope, haha.  My sister was the starting goalie for Butler Soccer as a sophomore, but that's about it!

Actually there is possibly one more for me: Einstein. My great uncle apparently claimed he was related to us but could never prove it. Would be funny if it turned out to be true

Of course. Like all humans, I am related to the woman called Mitochondrial Eve.

In all seriousness, I don't know. My genetic makeup is mostly but not entirely Amerindian, typical of the Valley of Mexico where my family originates. There aren't many famous people of that lineage, but I am probably distantly related to Moctezuma II and La Malinche.

I have relatives on one of those Alaska Wilderness shows.
"The Last Alaskans" on the Discovery Channel.

If there is anyone else, I wouldn't know without really looking into it.
