Of course, we'll see if this holds if Trump either resigns or is impeached within the next couple of years, and VP Mike Pence takes over:

Great stuff. I saw on http://www.centristproject.org/runforoffice they aren't running candidates in VA which is a great fit for moderate candidates. Too bad.

I still think they should create a party. I would need to see if such a party tacked to the center-left or the center-right to see if I would join it.

Also with this the article isn't talking about 2020 much only 2018.

I always favored a centrist party. I don't know if that would be a good name Centrist Party or Moderate Party. I think Moderate would pick up more votes. Or you could relabel it entirely with another connotation say Unity Party (hearkens back to Lincoln) or American Party (bad connotations with Wallace's run) or something savvy sounding to appeal to all ideologies.

Third-Party candidates always look promising at this stage. Most become irrelevant quickly.

Democrats will congeal quickly around whoever they nominate. There are maybe ten potential nominees for the Democratic slot for President, but they aren't that different in beliefs. I can't be so certain about Republicans, but any Third Party challenge from the Right will hurt the GOP nominee. Donald Trump has brought out the rifts within the GOP.

America is way too polarised at the moment for any third party run. If there was a year, it was 2016 with the Never Trumpers, but the GOP decided they hated Hillary more.
