Several months ago I read an article where some Trump voters were interviewed, and many of them indicated that they will switch their votes to someone else if Trump started another war.

War with Russia and/or in the Middle East again.

A war with Russia is a hysterical strawman. People who oppose airstrikes tilting the balance of an already ongoing war in the Middle East yet are totally indifferent to potentially starting a nuclear war in East Asia are like people who oppose slapping the child, but are indifferent to hanging him. They have no right to call themselves anti-war or doves.

The fact that you're panting and waiting for millions to die because that's the only way your fuhrer can get re-elected. Disgusting.

If Kim nukes anything closer to a US ally and especially the United States, people will rally around the president and start approving of Trump, especially among independents. Trump approval ratings would soar even among democrats because he is the one facing an enemy of the United States.

The moment Trump hits 75% approval and we are at war with North Korea, we know the next election is over, and the democrats hopes of not being in shambles after 2018 are too.

This is the pure epitome of a "strategy" that puts partisan politics over country and people, reprehensible and disgusting.

First of all, OP is obviously a troll.

Secondly, Kim Jong Un isn't going to try to nuke anyone, because he realizes that if he does, the US and South Korea will absolutely decimate him and his country in a war.

Thirdly, the idea that ANYTHING is going to make Trump have a 75% approval rating is hysterical, considering he's consistently been in the mid-30's-low 40's.

And lastly, the fact that you appear to be hoping for such an event to happen just so Trump can win re-election is both disgusting and reprehensible, even if you are just trolling.

I don't want a war with NK rather see it collapse the way of the USSR, but I don't think Kim does it. Even though I think he's building an H-bomb now, unless he's actually insane, he should realize that if he provokes nuclear war with the US, he and his entire country would be leveled (or vaporized) within 24 hours. That said, I really doubt fat boy does it

24 hours lol, probably 24 minutes with our submarines all around the world.

If Kim does someting which leaves Trump with absolutely no choice but to retaliate (like actually attacking SK) Trump's approval ratings will increase, but by 2018 (let alone 2020) people probably will have forgotten it (and Dems probably would be revisioning history and saying that we had a choice not to attack NK). But if Trump is the first to strike it would be a complete disaster electorally. Sure, the US would easily win but Seoul (the capital of a very important US ally...) would be completely destroyed in the proces, and NK would be Trump's Iraq (even though the course of the war would be different).

It would be much worse than even Afghanistan and Iraq combined.

Sure people would feel good for a while, but the world (and US) economy would go into recession while the main tangible result would be boys coming home in body bags... in big numbers. Ask George HW Bush, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson etc. how that works out in the long run.

There is a difference between those wars, and war with North Korea.
If NK attacks a US city, people will want retaliation. George Washington once said something along the lines of that a successful war is one that can be sold as having some benefit to the U.S. A war defending our country would be seen as having benefit. Whereas the first Korean War and Vietnam held no net benefit for the US, so public support eroded for it.

Also, George HW Bush didn't lose because of the Gulf War. He lost due to the economy. The Gulf War had ended over a year before the election.

The Neocons want war with Russia because Russia backs Assad.

Also, George HW Bush didn't lose because of the Gulf War. He lost due to the economy. The Gulf War had ended over a year before the election.

In fact his approval rating increased and stayed fairly high during and after the Gulf War since it was a very well executed war (last one we had engaged in prior was Vietnam so this war seemed perfectly executed by comparison).

The economy, as you noted, took Bush I down. The Gulf War didn't hurt him electorally under any circumstance.

Would you put such a strategy below someone as shallow and immature as Trump? I wouldn't.

I wonder what you all think of the events I described in my timeline featuring an even more dangerous crisis with North Korea where they fired a nuke on an uninhabited Aleutian island, but Trump decides to not immediately retaliate.

Maybe you shouldn't generalize there. A few trolls doesn't mean republicans want a genocide on their hands.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure "maga2020" is just a Democrat pretending to be a caricature of Republican anyway, or at least I would hope so.

I can virtually guarantee though that if a poll was done among GOP voters about whether we should pre-emptively attack North Korea they'd be overwhelmingly in favour of doing so

Exactly, I hate it when both sides of the aisle throw stereotypes at each other. Frankly it is childish, and unproductive.

Let's all calm down.  To the OP, it is wrong and idiotic to look at war as an election tool.  Frankly, that goes for everyone who says Trump will start a war for political capital.

We will not go to war.
Exactly. Alex Jones said that Obama would orchestrate a terrorist attack so his approval rating would go up. If you're rooting for a war where thousands will die in order to save your idol, you're no different than Jones.
