Pelosi is pretty much useless at his point. Great speaker who has lost her mind, terrible orator, terrible approvals & is killing house races.

But what about Steny Hoyer & Jim Clyburn? 77, 78 year old who are dull, inspiring, inefficient, disconnected people who have no business being in the leadership anymore. What about replacing Hoyer & Clyburn who have monopolized the leadership with Pelosi.

Isn't it time to get a new fresh leadership team for Congress. You can put a couple of decent other guys apart from Tim Ryan !

Tim Ryan, Linda Sanchez, and Terri Sewell would be a good team.

Honestly any Democrat whose ideal Speaker right now is Steny Hoyer should also be replaced.

Cheri Bustos (D-IL), Linda Sanchez (D-CA) and Anthony Brown (D-MD) would make a great leadership team that has strong geographic and racial representation.

... Anthony Brown?

Hakeem Jeffries or Ben Ray Lujan is far more realistic.

Pelosi will step aside - when she wants to.

Isn't Demings a freshman congresswoman? If you want a Southern black woman, Terri Sewell is great.

Sewell would be fine. I put Demings because I like her police background and think she would be well respected.

I think Hoyer and Pelosi should go, but Jim Clyburn is both respected and effective. His work on the 10-20-30 anti poverty plan shows why I want him in leadership. Clyburn is a leader.

My personal favourite for the position is Raul Grijalva. I think he'd be a good, progressive leader, but I wouldn't mind Tim Ryan or Cheri Bustos.

I like to imagine there's a distinct possibility that Democrats win the house in 2018, but chose different leadership. Not like that's a real possibility.

Aside from the commonly named Bustos, Ryan, Lujan, etc. I'd like to see Ds like Terri Sewell, Jim Himes, Ted Deutch, John Sarbanes, Joe Kennedy, Sean Patrick Maloney, Matt Cartwright, Joaquin Castro, Marc Veasey, and Ron Kind be in leadership.

Looking at this thread I think a lot of Dems are only considering optics; which yeah is important, but you also want your leadership team to be effective at controlling your caucus. Nice racial and geographic balance don't mean jack if you can't lead your colleagues.

The problem is that there's one only person who's been controlling the caucus for the last decade plus some change. Unless you count the whips as helping in that control.

Yeah, you can't exactly force out the highest ranking African-American Representative ever, particularly not one who has done as much and acted as well as Clyburn.

No one that Atlas wants in the leadership will get there and no one in Congress looks to this board for advice.

Someone forgot to wear their dr scholls tonight I see.

---

I do think the dems could benefit from a shakeup. I'm skeptical about how much the politics of the leader really matters, but I think Nancy Pelosi does have the effect of making the party look like coastal elites, which might play into some of the problems dems have in rural areas. The problem is unless she steps down, most of the people who might be the best candidates probably aren't going to challenge her. And it seems like she's never going to step down as long as Steny Hoyer is still around. That's why we get nobodies like Tim Ryan grandstanding like a dope. I wouldn't mind someone like John Lewis as leader, but it isn't going to happen. I guess if 2018 is a disaster, the party might shake things up a bit.  But really, having old people that nobody likes lead parties is just kind of how Congress seems to work.

Honestly my dream team is Tim Ryan, Keith Ellison and Barbara Lee, but that's a match-up that only exists in heaven.

Pelosi may actually be better than Hoyer & Clyburn. Both of them are absolutely terrible. If the choice if Hoyer or Clyburn taking over, perhaps it is better for Pelosi to stay. Atleast she will be a good Speaker even though she is a clueless leader & a terrible orator.

Imagine what a waste it'd be to have the first black Speaker of the House be Jim Clyburn.
