Right now he's still 40 in my book. If he goes to war with North Korea then he is dead last.

Yep, if he lets it escalate to that point it will be the most avoidable/pointless war we've ever been a part of, which is saying something.

He just dropped to 43 from 42.
41. Filmore
42. A. Johnson
43. Trump
44. Bush II
45. Buchanan

His lack of response during crisis, and refusal to condemn Nazis is my reason.

My fear is that he will realize his presidency is irredeemable, so he'll aim to be the best at being the worst. If he deliberately seeks out notoriety/villainy for his legacy, knowing full-well that he'll never have a chance at being remembered fondly, he'll resort to crazy sh**t all in the name of being "someone" in the history books.

Is he selfish enough to nuke North Korea and accept the consequences when they retaliate...? Just maybe. We already have enough proof that he's not a good man. Kinda scary.

This is unlikely. There's no way Trump would put this much thought into it.

He's tied for last place with W, but it depends on whether the US goes to war while he is in charge.

You seriously think that the past two Republican presidents are the two worst in American history?

Hope you're right.

But given how good he is at knowing how people will respond to what he says in the immediate [not much for the long term], I'm not sure this can be ruled out.

Very low, only Reagan, Jackson, Buccannon, Harding, and Pierce can even compete from what I know.

It's interesting to compare Trump to these three. Like Pierce, Trump appears to have ascended to the office while suffering from deep mental illness,

Can you stop using "mentally ill" as if it makes someone less then human?

It's too early to rate, but he'd be in the bottom 10 just from the damage he's done already. Definitely worse than George W. Bush.

I'd rate Trump as excellent as the following roman emperors: Caligula, Nero, Domitian, Commodus and Elagabalus

Damage done:

45. Buchanan
44. A. Johnson
43. Hoover
42. TRUMP
41. George W. Bush

Potential for damage due to mistakes committed

45. Buchanan
44. TRUMP
43. A. Johnson
42. Hoover
41. George W. Bush

At this time in 1929 the Hoover economy was humming along. It's hard to see what could be  a modern equivalent of putting America at risk of dissolution in a war between regions.

Revision:

He has yet to deal incompetently with an economic meltdown that began much like the one starting in late 2007 as did Herbert Hoover because there has been no such meltdown. One consequence of that meltdown was the rise of Adolf Hitler and all the destruction that resulted from the appearance of the leader who ruled about as Satan would have.

The danger of the situation in Korea alone forces me to make a subtle change:

Damage done:

45. Buchanan
44. A. Johnson
43. Hoover
42. TRUMP
41. George W. Bush

Potential for damage due to mistakes committed

45. TRUMP
42. Hoover
43. Buchanan
42. A. Johnson
41. George W. Bush

There can be more deaths in Korea than there were in the American Civil War. As incompetent as Donald Trump was in dealing with American evil, I can hardly see how more competent he can be in dealing with the evil that is North Korean leadership.

Hoover meant well and had a moral compass. That was not enough.

I already had him one above Buchanan, who I have as dead last.

He's inching closer and closer to outdoing Buchanan as the worst.
