I still don't know what a Marxist is exactly.  I'm just an American citizen who believes in compassion and common sense- and there's no need to identify as anything else.

No, and while I certainly agree with much of Marxist analysis, my sympathies lie with the anti-authoritarians of the First International.

You have certainly read Marx!

there's maybe eight people in the world who are orthodox doctrinaire marxists

I mean by that narrow definition, how many constitutionalists or Christians are there?

Yes I have, and confiscating the means of production and giving them to "the people" is certainly not that.

I'm a strong supporter of Dialectical Materialism, which is, essentially, the foundation of Marxist theory. Then there's his praxis, Economics, and Sociology (Conflict Theory). I can't deny being in agreement with him or subsequent Marxists who worked to improve upon his theory and ideas without breaking from Orthodox Marxism. The Frankfurt School and Situationist International incorporated a lot of excellent material into Marxist philosophy and politics, especially its approach to Sociology, by helping to found Critical Theory. In my Sociology (major) courses I relied heavily on Conflict Theory and Critical Theory to shape my understanding of and approach to Sociological issues, and read about it extensively in my free time (own several books by notable Critical Theorists).

In summary: yes, I'm a Marxist.
