Manchin's name has been brought up for the position before. He's repeatedly denied wanting the job. I really think Manchin is a lifer so long as he continues to ge reelected.

Edit: Also, what does Manchin know about nukes?

I would be shocked if he took the position of secretary of energy unless he really is tired of being in the senate. I am not sure why he would want to give up a senate seat that he probably has a decent chance of getting re-elected to for a cabinet position that their is no guarantee how long he will be in.

WOOOOO

I've wanted Manchin in the administration, and this would open up a Senate seat.

Manchin is a good man and would do a good job as Energy Secy.

Manchin turned down the job months ago. So why would he take it now with Trump in even a worst position?

Hate it. But would be a slight improvement of that dim wit, Rick Perry.

With the Dem party losing everywhere and dying it would make great sense for Manchin to flee the sinking ship.

We have gained seats in various state legislatures. We have a 10 point lead on the generic ballot. Trump's victory doesn't mean that Democrats can never win again.

You missed the -1 Governors and the historic collapse to 1920s levels of support across the board.

We didn't lose the WV governorship in an election so your logic is flawed. He changed because he licked his lips at the opportunity of winning another term in reddening West Virginia.

And what happened to the democrats in the early 1930s?

Serious question: do no Republican politicians understand the purpose of the Department of Energy?

And what happened to the democrats in the early 1930s?

So you're saying because a collapse happened nearly a century ago following the greatest economic downturn in history, that the same thing will happen again, propelling the Democrats to power? I think not. Not to mention the fact that it was driven by one of the most charismatic politicians of the 20th Century.

And to everyone talking about polls should take a phone call from Dewey, Nixon, Carter and Dukakis for those who believe in polls miles out from election day Wink

He's not stupid enough to take a Cabinet position in a Trump administration.

If it is dying, then its death is a murder by people who want America to be the sort of country in which the many suffer greatly for economic elites responsible only to themselves.

Manchin is more vulnerable than people think he is imo. Jenkins is a serious challenger, and Trump still is very popular in West Virginia (and he will be in 2018 barring some unforseen circumstances).

Serious question: do no Republican politicians understand the purpose of the Department of Energy?
