Gubernatorial streaks of electing opposing party Governor of the president

Virginia did this from 1977-2009 with 2013 being the first exception since 1973 albeit with a poor Republican candidate.

The states with the longest streaks of doing this are: NM, OK, KS, WY, TN, NJ, all of which have done so since at least 1990 (as far back as Atlas goes). How long will they continue? NJ and NM likely will next election; the others likely not.

Hawaii has the longest streak of voting for a Governor the same party as the President, from 1994-2014 but will likely be broken in 2018. Hawaii is a pro-incumbent state in presidential elections, though it could be a coincidence of Lingle being a strong candidate who happened to have run in 2002 and 2006 (though she lost handily for Senate in 2012, albeit with native son Obama at the top of the ticket).

Maine elected a Republican with a Democratic president in 2010 and 2014, a Democrat with a Republican president in 2002 and 2006, and is poised to elect a Democratic governor with a Republican president in 2018.

NJ and NM are basically guaranteed to continue their streak. Kansas probably will too. There's also a decent chance Oklahoma will.
