All three of these men are/were extremely racist even by the standards of their own time, but who was the most behind the times in his racism?

Johnson was very committed to white supremacy, yet the "moderate" Republicans who killed Thaddeus Stevens land reparations proposal and later softened the 15th Amendment actually bear more responsibility for the unfulfilled end result of Reconstruction than Johnson.

Wilson, however, actively implemented Jim Crow legislation and openly endorsed the KKK, at a time when the general attitude had been gradual integration.

Klan film? Don't dismiss the first epic movie and the reason for the film industry as a "Klan Film".

Trump's more of an opportunistic misanthrope willing to stoke other's racism for his own power [Little different from George Wallace in that regard]. He did call out David Duke in 2000 after all.

Johnson's belief in the need to end slavery when most of his countrymen were gung-ho about it to the bitter end knocks him off. And when you had people like Horatio Seymour running...sorry, but no.

That leaves it with Wilson, champion of The Lost Cause of The South.

Andrew Johnson was the great racist ever to reside in the White House. Nobody successor will come close.

The hate for Woodrow Wilson is abnormal. He had a serious flaw with that matter, but was good president on progressive reforms and foreign policy. His league of nations proposal was visionary.

I've always had a soft spot for Johnson, a man who came from literally nothing to the extent that his own wife taught him to read, and who shirked not only his party, but his very state, in remaining a Unionist. This is sympathy that I will probably never have for Wilson.

While it's true Wilson did have Birth of a Nation played in the white house, the story that he said "It is like writing history with lightning. And my only regret is that it is all so terribly true" is entirely false and was concocted by the playwright of the original story. Wilson in fact claimed not to have known the nature of the work before viewing it and later called it an 'unfortunate production'
