Election of a Prime Minister and House of Commons
Notice is hereby given that
(1) The election of a Prime Minister and House of Commons for the Commonwealth of Fremont will begin Friday, August 18 at 12:00 AM (Eastern Standard Time) and continue for 72 hours hence.
(2) One prime minister and a to-be-determined number of Members will be elected. The number of Members to be elected will be determined by the number of candidates for election.
(3) Citizens have until Wednesday, August 16 to declare their candidacy.
(4) A complete list of announced candidates is as follows:

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q. What even is this?A. In a public referendum in February, the people of Fremont voted to replace the old, decrepit regional government of the First Constitution with a new
parliamentary democracy, becoming the first region in history to do so. The result of this referendum was to replace the governor and legislative assembly with an elected Parliament composed of a House of Commons and a directly-elected Prime Minister. The last parliamentary elections were held two months ago and resulted in the election of
HARRY S TRUMAN as Prime Minister and a majority for the Labor Party in the House of Commons.
Q. What offices are up for election?A. As stated above, voters will elect a Prime Minister and the members of the new House of Commons in this election. As the names suggest, the
PRIME MINISTER is the leader of the ministry, while the
HOUSE OF COMMONS forms the body of Parliament.
Q. How do I run for office?A. Easy - just announce your candidacy
here by Wednesday, August 16 and your name will be included on the ballot.
Q. Should I run for office?A. Yes, you should. Even if you're not quite sure how this whole thing works, there are plenty of seasoned hands who will be more than happy to help you. A healthy democracy thrives on citizen participation, so even if you're still getting the hang of things, becoming involved is always preferable to sitting on the sidelines.
Q. Is there anything else I should do?Join a regional party! As explained in the linked thread, regional parties are "uniquely Fremontian political groups organized to... draw attention to issues specific to our region and to celebrate Fremont's unique culture and history." There are currently four regional parties established in the Commonwealth of Fremont: the
Democratic Alliance, the
Liberal Democracy Party, the
Free Soil Party, and the
Ecosocialist Party (representing respectively the center, center-left, center-right, and left).
