On Tuesday night MSNBC's Brian Williams bluntly told his panel on the channel's flagship prime time program, The 11th Hour, that "our job tonight actually is scare people to death" over North Korea. The remarks came in the midst of a vigorous discussion which included Andrea Mitchell giving a detailed description of what the potential death toll on the Korean peninsula might be should a ballistic missile exchange occur. The panel also included MSNBC contributor Malcolm Nance, to which Williams' remarks were specifically directed.

Last April, Williams was widely mocked on social media for his comments in response to Trump's bombing Syria. Responding to a Pentagon video which showed US cruise missiles being launched on an airfield in Syria, he said live on MSNBC that he found himself “tempted to quote the great Leonard Cohen: ‘I’m guided by the beauty of our weapons.”

What a piece of sh*t. The media's role has been terrible. They did the same during Iraq as cheerleaders for the war. Now they are trying to create a type of coverage which escalates the conlift & nudges the POTUS to declare war.

What a piece of shi* this guy is.

Well, the media did a good job.

Honestly though, this guy should have been kept off the air for his lies the last time.

Whether it is this statement by Brian Williams or Mika Brezinski's statement about "It's our job to control what people think", it really shows that mainstream news has an agenda, rather than just reporting the news.

The "corporate" media, however you describe or define it, has a number of biases, most of which are stronger than any implicit political biases harbored by the individual members of said media.

When it comes to military intervention, a handful are most strongly at play and it results in the same kind of cheerleading that we saw in the run up to Iraq: 1) members of the media are biased in favor of stories that affect them most directly; generally their lives are detached from members of the armed forces (family doesn't serve, closer friends don't serve, etc.), so there's less of an immediate connection. 2) the owners of said media outlets are biased in favor of ratings; like it or not, war brings good ratings. 3) the media as a whole loves to sell a good bi-partisan / country coming together narrative.

All of these lead to a less than thorough examination of both the facts and the probable outcomes of any action.
