Another example of Trump voicefully condemning everyone except for the KKK and neo-Nazis.
That's the thing, isn't it. He critize absolutely anyone for even the most minor thing. But neo-nazis and the KKK he has to be almost coerced into critizising.

And then he did exactly that, again, three hours later by comparing Founding Fathers to Confederate leaders. Truly, all the mental acuity and self-awareness of a turnip.

Why does he single out Graham though? There were dozens of Republican congresspeople who have critcized him since Tuesday. Must be something personal.

Because Trump is a bigot against minorities /s

In reality, because railing against someone totally unpopular is likely to be a rallying cry.

By trouncing, I guess he means the Presidential primary?  Graham won all his elections to the House and Senate handily.

Obviously, though Graham dropped out in December 2015. He never competed in the primaries.

And he isn't up in the senate till 2020, btw.

Yeah that's what he's referring to. He's brought up Graham's election defeat on twitter many times actually, always referring to that.

Bingo. It's a grade school bully picking on who he sees as the geeky outsider.  Trump hasn't yet figured out that adults in modern civilization don't always function like that.

Trump's lawyer emailed this to Congressional GOP demanding they repeat these talking points :

Yes, George Washington, who refused to be made King and voluntarily stepped down after 8 years is exactly the same as Napeoleon who made himself emperor of France and ruled as an absolute monarch.

Let's also ignore the fact that Washington betrayed the imperialist British Empire and Lee betrayed the United States.

He just gets it, doesn't he?

I mean who can blame the guy for pandering to his constituents, in the northernmost state on the East Coast....

I get especially suspicious when people from outside the South (like Trump) get all nostalgic about the Confederacy and Confederate symbols. The "heritage" argument doesn't apply in their case.

That guys is legitimately insane.  Sad couple of days seeing so much Confederate apoligism, which - by extension - really undermines the United States of America.

Trump has to do something to keep his base motivated during the slow season after all those legislative and judicial setbacks earlier this year. By latching on traditionalism he is playing his part brilliantly.

This is a joke right ? .... Some kind of setup ?
This can not possibly be true.
At this point, the recent White House renovations should have included a giant three-tent circus canopy, completely engulfing the former building.

Interesting choice of leaders. Did he literally just finish playing a game of Civilization?

Lee is no different than Pedro II, Catherine the Great, Haile Selassie, or Nebuchadnezzar.

Or Hannibal Barca!

Anyways, being unable to get the difference between Washington and Lee is juvenile, so no surprise Trump doesn't get it.

Trump asking whether Washington and Jefferson are next was actually a good point that got lost among his more provocative remarks in that bizarre Trump Tower press conference.

Washington and Jefferson are memorialized for the good things they did for the U.S. However, they also owned slaves.

Lee and Jackson are memorialized for fighting against the U.S. and in support of slavery. And they owned slaves, but that seems trivial by comparison to fighting for slavery.

Basically.

The extent to which we should celebrate the founders who owned slaves is an important debate to have, but acting like they're equivalent to the Confederates is just wrong.

This is one of the more stupid false equivalences I've seen (and there have been a bunch of them lately.)  Washingon and Jefferson were crucial in the founding of this country; the Confederates tried to tear it apart.  These monuments never should have been erected in the first place; even Lee was against the idea of Confederate monuments.  Study their history, sure, but that can be done quite well with books and museums.  Don't celebrate traitors to the country with monuments.

Exactly

X 100. Stupidest whataboutery of the year.
