No. Nobody is defending him, and he should be condemned. He should not, however, be condemned in the same sentence condemning someone who plowed their car into a crowd, killed someone, and critically injured others. Not on the same level, not even close, and there's many ways you can state that clearly. Trump didn't do that, and he didn't try. He has again and again tried to place any and all violence on those protecting their city and country from White supremacist terrorists, regardless of their individual political persuasion, on the same level as the White supremacist terrorists themselves. This is an especially tenuous comparison to try to make when a member of his own party in Congress punched a reporter the day before his election, getting no response whatsoever from the White House.

Compare:
"We're closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence, on many sides. Many sides."

"Today a white supremacist terrorist killed an American exercising her First Amendment right and standing up for our country and the values we hold dear. We stand with her and against anyone who resorts to violence when they can't defend their political positions."
