Some of Nadal's supporters will be upset. Her inner city/suburban base.

What an idiot. Let's hope she resigns and is replaced by a good State Senator who takes their job seriously, stands up for the district, and fights Trump without calling for his assassination.

I'm sure she's a very nice person.

There are death threats on both sides.

This may be sarcastic, but I agree with it. We could use a little more empathy and see people as people rather than political tools.

I could see her beating Lacy Clay in 2018 and ending the Clay dynasty. The Carnahan dynasty looks over in MO, why not the Clay dynasty?

After this, I don't think so. The Democratic Establishment in Missouri will never support her, and I don't think most activists on the left actually want to kill President Trump.

She's my state Senator. I live in District 14.
District 14 is, according to 2010 census, 60.73% black; about 5% other minorities, so about 34.2% is white, non-Hispanic. The redistricting commission that drew the senate district boundaries, using the elections of 2002-2010, all federal and state races, said District 14 voted about 84% Democratic on average. My analysis of 2012 was that it voted about 84% Democratic that year; I haven't completed analysis of 2016 yet, but the presidential race, it was about 80% for Clinton. There have not been any Republicans who tried to compete for state senator in any of the last 4 general elections.
District 14, besides including the city of Fergusson and, in particular, the street where Michael Brown was shot three years ago, also includes Lambert International Airport, and the campuses of Washington University and University of Missouri, St. Louis. The St. Louis Walk of Fame is a series of brass-plated stars embedded in the sidewalk along Delmar Blvd in University City -- "the loop" -- each star commemorates a celebrity who lived in the St. Louis area.

Maria Chappelle-Nadal has not had any Republican opponents, neither the three times she was elected to the state House of Representatives (2004, 2006, and 2008), nor the two times she's been elected to the Senate (2010 and 2014). She ran against Lacy Clay in the Democratic primary in MO-01 a little more than one year ago, but lost badly -- she got 24,059 while Clay got 56,139, and she did not even win most of the precincts in District 14.

She is term-limited, so if she declines to resign from her seat, she won't be running for re-election next year anyway, and now I doubt she will run for any other office ever again.

Maria Chappelle-Nadal: ‘There’s No Way In Hell That I’m Resigning’

She is doing the very opposite of owning up to her mistake. She needs to resign. If she will not, the Democratic party needs to spearhead a recall effort, in addition to expelling her from the party.

The Democrats cannot (and should not) attempt to succeed by acting like Trump only on the other side of the political spectrum.  They need to be better than Trump or his GOP cult. This should not be difficult. Accepting violence into our already-fraught and divided politics will doom us.

It would appear not:

Maybe the MO Senate could expel her? (Although it's totally R dominated, of course.)

Shame on you, State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal! I despise Trump and his administration, but that was uncalled for!

(Without having read the post myself - I avoid facebook like the plague.)

Advocating political violence is a huge part of what is wrong with Trump. This kind of vile nonsense must be opposed at every step, no matter who does it. State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal should resign her position immediately, and be removed from any and all positions in the Democratic party. Public servants calling for political assassination is utterly unacceptable, and the Dems need to say that, loud and clear.

The solution to fighting Trump is not stooping to his level.

I can see her being a MSNBC or some far left contributor. She graduated from Georgia State University.

She has a degree in Political Science and Sociology (not a surprise).

Yeah, the reality is that Nadal isn't in any danger of losing her seat in a general election, and very likely in no danger of losing her seat in a primary. Everybody should just stop complaining about her and stop trying to be better than the GOP or whatever. There is no real recourse to push her out of office and she obviously knows that.

Uhh Democrats should make it clear that they oppose the advocacy of political violence.

Can you provide an actual reason for that beyond the meaningless moral drivel of "slippery slope!", "we're better than the GOP" or "thoughtful voters actually care at all about this (they don't)"?

How come when Democrats say stupid things, they have to apologize, but when Republicans do it they get elected

Because we are objectively weaker in every sense of the word: the American Left is an emasculated, spineless, skinny jean-wearing joke. Hence the discussion I'm having above and hence why comparable threads over GOP politicians' statements never unfold like this. They know to double-down and lock arms; we voluntarily break our own links and give their attacks cover. It's also why one side is proactively and disproportionately engaged in physical violence against their opponents.

Actual reason: advocating political violence is morally wrong.
Another actual reason: if political violence were normalised the left would suffer disproportionately.

I'm not saying advocate for it: I'm saying don't be proactive in spilling your guts about how sorry we all are that somebody did advocate for it. Why should every unrelated Muslim apologize when there's a terrorist attack conducted by a Muslim? Why should every person of color be forced to prove that "they're one of the good ones" based on awful stereotypes others carry? Why should anybody left-of-center grovel when somebody makes threats, especially considering that their ideological opponents are the ones disproportionately carrying them out in the first place?

It is one of many indicators and reasons why - to which you alluded - the American Left is objectively weaker in every sense and more susceptible to being violently attacked in the first place. When the majority of this country who comprises the left-of-center decides to stop propping up a culture of second-place, victim-style, submissive "we're better [weaker] than that" attitudes, it'll no longer be a problem. It can start by people not feeling the need to proactively apologize, criticize or disavow things and people in their own hemisphere to whom they have no otherwise meaningful relation.

This is talk of an assassination.

Ted Nugent received a visit from the Secret Service, and rightly so.

What I am curious about is what this woman's constituents think of her comments.  Are they down with them or not?
