Democrat Larry Marvin, who ran in 2008, 2012, and 2014, is running in 2018. Safe R, but Fischer will have at least one opponent.

Better than nothing.

I'd like to see Dems recruit Pete Festersen to run for this seat, but I doubt he'll run.

What about a major city's mayor, like Chris Beutler of Lincoln?

Lincoln City Councilwoman, former Lancaster County Commissioner, and 2014 nominee for Lt. Gov., Jane Raybould is in.

Raybould is a stong contender for the nomination, especially being on the city council of Lincoln.

Jane Raybould reminds me of Doug Jones: solid candidate in a rough state for Dems. I've been following the Raybould campaign on social media and she's immensely likable, has a strong following in Lancaster County and has been making inroads in Omaha, and has run a statewide campaign before (as part of a gubernatorial campaign). Fischer will obviously win reelection, but Raybould could be fun to watch.

If Bannon's insane attempt at primarying Fischer works...then Democrats might have a chance, but with Fischer this race is Safe R. If a Bannon acolyte actually succeeds in beating Fischer, then I'd peg this as Lean R.

Shame Lancaster is outside of NE-02, otherwise we could easily run Raybould against Bacon in 2020 if Ashford falls flat.

Little Debbie shall be trounced by Big Bold Raybould.

In all seriousness, yeah, Fisher will probably win. The big accomplishment would be to hold her to less than 55%; that could happen if Republican turnout is terrible and people turn out to vote against Republicans in "big cities" like North Platte, and very big cities like Omaha and Lincoln have high turnout. NE-02 being very competitive will obviously help drive turnout up in the Omaha area as well.

A respectable Raybould performance could help Ashford, if she ends up carrying NE-02 or coming close.

Raybould seems to be a surprisingly strong candidate

Probably not strong enough to win, but I could see her "only" losing by 5-10%.

Raybould is campaigning in Lincoln, where she's a City Councillor, today (November 28) and will be campaigning in York County, which Trump won with 74% of the vote, on November 30.

Raybould is making a lot of news, mostly statewide but she's made a little bit of national news too.

She crept up in a Politico story about Democrats trying to run all across the country and capturing momentum from Alabama: https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/14/democrats-alabama-jones-midterms-295479

And she's in a ton of state news about filing for the election and travelling around the state: https://nebraskaradionetwork.com/2017/12/11/democrat-jane-raybould-makes-it-official-files-for-u-s-senate-race/

Nice to see the media taking her seriously.
