So let's say for argument sake that Gavin runs in 2020, wins the nom, and picks Booker as his running mate to balance the ticket with a minority senator. How good would that ticket be

I don't want Booker on any ticket because of his drug vote.

Too coastal and lacks experience.

Someone like Brown would be a better running mate for Newsom. I don't think it matters that it would be an all white male ticket.

If Newsom is the nominee, he would have to pick someone like Stacey Abrams, Ben Jealous, Gwen Graham, Hakeem Jeffries, Tammy Duckworth, or Tammy Baldwin - newbies with ties to the minority community, the left wing of the Democratic Party, or a very experienced Senator not from the coast.

Newsom only has two years of experience as GovCA. He'd be sworn in January of 2019, then a few months later announce he's running for president. For 2024, Newsom stands a much better chance.

The problem with Gavin Newsom is that he looks, sounds, and acts like a character from a Bret Easton Ellis novel.

Try it the other way around (Booker/Newsom). 2020 is too early for Newsom, although he would be a good candidate and I endorse him for governor.

I believe Newsom will be the nominee. I don't believe he'd select another progressive for his running mate. Maybe a moderate governor such as Bullock, McAuliffe, Cooper, Edwards or even Cuomo.

Prepare to get a lot of hate for pointing out Booker is a progressive.

Obama was elected to the Senate in 2005 and announced his run for Pres in 2007 so he had at least two years on the job before he announced. Newsom would have to announce literally months after he's sworn in, this doesn't seem feasible for him.

Newsom literally looks like an extra from wolf of Wall Street and he's pretty stiff in interviews from what I have seen.
If he's running he'd probably be better off with someone down to earth and relatable like Franken on the ticket.

Agreed. Newsom may end up as our nominee one day, but not 2020. Even the VP slot is unlikely for 2020.

Newsom hasn't even been elected Governor yet.  A lot can go wrong.

It'd be a damn strong ticket. Newsom is hot - women would vote for him.

Newsome probably has more personal baggage than anyone in the Democratic field, trump/GOP would drag him over his messy past.

Newsom has also been running for Governor since 2014, and knows that he can have a lot more clout as Governor of California rather than throwing himself in to a crowded primary that he'd lose.

Politicians generally imo run for President when they can't see a way to go much further.
