This, along with the new Age of Mythology based in China a year or two ago... so happy!

Cheesy FINALLY!

I wonder which era it will cover? Logically, considering how they've moved forward through time with each entry, I would suspect World War 1. Maybe they'll surprise us?

probably the 20th century
(the last one covered the first American colonies until the Gilded Age)

Each game usually covers 4 time periods within it.

I'd guess:

World War I
World War II
Korea/Vietnam/otherColdWar
Persian Gulf War / breakup of Yugoslavia (maybe our 21st century wars so far)

The original gameplan:

That's cool. I've gotten really into AOE2 on Steam lately.

Yet another game that I probably won't be able to play until I can build my long delayed computer project. Tongue

Hopefully it will be better than 3. Not a huge fan of that one.

Compared to 2, 3 was pretty bad.

Never played the first two, but I did buy AoEIII last year for the second time and ended up barely playing it. Guess what I'm about to play now...

I played 1,2, and 3, but I must say I found AOE 2 the best.

For some reason AOE II quit playing on the XP machine circa 2009/2010. I never really did find out why, but figured it was an update or something. So I only get to play it when I dig the old Windows 98 machine out of the closest, and that is very rarely.

And ever since I put an HD7770 video card in the Windows Seven machine, it won't play anything that came out before 2006, also because of an update.

You can just check the box that makes the game compatible on a Windows 10 PC, like I do.

doesn't work for everything - although the original AoE2 should work on modern PCs with a few tweaks.  Although the HD version is Very Good and you should check it out.

2 is by far my favourite of the series. I put so many hours into that game when I was a kid, and I was happy to see the HD edition of Steam a few years ago, with a new expansion. And I like the newest expansions too.

Also glad to see that they are releasing a definitive edition for Rise of Rome. I love that game too and especially love that time period, but the game itself has aged too much for me.

3 is....eh. It is alright I guess. It is by far my least played game of the series, and it does take place I have far less interest in compared to the ancient era, medieval times, and WW1/2.

Also excited for 4. There hasn't been a major RTS game released in a long time that I can remember.

That only has limited effectiveness.

And it definitely won't solve the AMD driver issue, which is a pretty widely documented error concerning a pixel limit of 10,000 on older iterations of Direct Draw, where previously no such limit had existed and so any program that contains even a single image that exceeds that on older Direct Draw (which is most every game designed on those) crashes on startup. The only solution so far has to been to manually identify the files and edit them by hand to reduce the pixel counts.

Games so far effected that I have personally seen:
Age of Empires I
Age of Empires II
Medal of Honor Allied Assault and all its expansions
Hearts of Iron II
Victoria: Revolutions
Europa Universalis II
Battlefield 1942

Probably effects others but I haven't tested them all yet.

I have been planning a computer build for nearly two years. One that can play the following:
Fallout 4
Hearts of Iron 4 - all that AI management of armies and stuff requires a huge processor.
Battlefield One
Titanic: Honor and Glory - if it ever gets finished (demo 3 is murdering my dual core processor on the Seven machine, so the full game will definitely require a hefty machine. Though the 2 gb AMD HD7770 video card is a pain for old games, I am glad I have it because those Demos wouldn't start if I didn't.)
AOE IV - just added to the list

Of course budget constraints have kept it shelved.

To be honest, I'm always more of a story fan, liking the campaign and cinematics. For some reason, 2 didn't really appeal to me while I loved 3.

I just built (Frankenstiened some pieces from my wife's old computer) a rig to play BF1 on a tight budget.  An X4 860k (~$70), 8 gig RAM and a 750ti and I can play lag free on medium/low graphics.  It also plays HOI4 just fine, it does slow down in the late game, but it's not unreasonable.

Unbelievable! Can't wait. Although I  must say, for this, I hope they stick more to the kind of gameplay present in AoC and not AoE III, where there were restrictions on unit types and stuff like that. If I want I amass 100 Paladins or Longbowman, then damn it, don't get in my way Tongue
