My paternal grandfather was mayor of a tiny town, and my maternal grandmother was chair of an Idaho county democratic party(she's still involved in politics AFAIK, but she stepped down from the position itself). I'm probably related to at least a few Mormon politicians.

As the title says. I'm interested in hearing your story or their story. Really, any connection to the political world you use would interest me.

Personally, I have never held elected office....but I'm running for a town council position where I live this year.  Family-wise, my father never held political office either....but he was a two-time president of the local board of realtors.

My father was a Fairfield County, CT, real estate agent for around sixty years, as well as a two-time local realtor of the year.  In the late 70s, he was apparently approached by the local Democrats to run for first selectman (a New England term for mayor) of my hometown, but he declined, citing work issues.  He was a very dedicated guy, though.  Smiley

My second cousin once removed is a Senator (hints: not from Tennessee and up for reelection in 2018).  I don't think I have ever met him/her, though.

Another hint: the Senator is a Democrat.

I'd say either Donnelly, Heitkamp, Tester, or Nelson.

On my  father's side of the family, through his mother, my grandmother, who was an Allen, was a descendant of Ethan Allen, who was a farmer, businessman, land speculator, philosopher, writer, lay theologian, and American Revolutionary War patriot, hero, and politician.

Ethan Allen is best known as one of the founders of the state of Vermont, and for the capture of Fort Ticonderoga early in the American Revolutionary War.

He was as well an appointed judge in Vermont for a short time.

So I am presumably a relative of this great American patriot.

I think I may have had a great uncle who served as a mayor, and it's rumored that I may be related to Mike Pence.

One more thing when I was visiting my grandfather in washington last december I asked him who he voted for in 08 he was a life long democrat but I thought he would have voted for his friend John but he said he voted for Obama when I asked why he said a lot of reasons but mainly cited Palin being the VP choice

Then your grandfather is indeed a smart man.

Heaven help America if McCain had won then died in office, making Palin President.

I have long said that McCain failed his first major responsibility as a Presidential candidate, and that was to make a decision on choosing a capable and qualified Vice Presidential candidate.

My dad has been in parliament. My maternal grandfather's family claims to have the record for highest number of Conservative MPs from a Swedish family. We lost our seat in the 2002 election though. Tongue

The guy currently runs his municipality though which is like one of the top 20 in Sweden (so not that big Wink ).

I'm pretty closely related to a former Republican US Senator from Idaho with a bathroom scandal, who isn't Larry Craig.

One of my ancestors was a court physician for King Kamehameha V. He later became President of the Board of Health and Minister of the Interior for the same King.

This doesn't really count since it's not technically political but my dad is an elected municipal judge. He first won in 2004 simply because he was an attorney and his opponent wasn't, and he's run unopposed ever since.

i think the closest my family ever came to public service has been my dead relative who was in the 17th Tennessee Infantry (Confederate) and died of wounds at Murfreesboro in 1862.

Otherwise my family are really just businesspeople.
