Bullock has worked diligently to elevate his profile. First chair of the Democratic Governors' Association, then the Western Governors' Association, and next year the National Governor's Association. Perfect timing.

Bullock's resume is solid for a small-state Governor.  I'll start out with that.

If the Democrats are serious about winning in 2020, they need to look for candidates who actually beat Republicans in Republican states.  Bullock is a guy who's beat Republicans in tough years in a Republican state.  He's a guy Democrats SHOULD be looking at.

Liz Warren and Bernie Sanders are elected from liberal bastions; is that a big deal?  Andrew Cuomo and Kamela Harris win in Democratic CA and NY; is that stunning?  If Democrats are looking for new blood to lead the ticket, they need to look at the Steve Bullocks and the Joe Donnellys and the Heidi Heitkamps, because these are the folks that will expand the map.  This is what I believe would be the smart course of action, particularly if the Democrats aren't going to nominate the Big names (Biden, Gore).
