Let's just openly admit it ... the poor Hispanic immigrant who has left the area that he was born into to forge a better life for himself and his family is a better person than the poor rust belt American who refuses to move or change the vocation his family has followed for generations even though the industry is dying.  The poor Hispanic immigrant is showing initiative and doing something to improve his situation.  The poor rust belt American is just looking for government and business to take money from the pockets of other Americans to prop up his lazy butt.

+1. So much for the "self-responsibility" of conservatives.

Why can't we just say both are good people? Immigrants are trying to start better lives (rightfully so), and Rust Belt Americans are looking for ways to revitalize their communities.

Can't we just, you know, judge people as individuals?

All this talk of "initiative" and "personal responsibility" determining who gets benefits sounds rather Republican to me.

Even if this were true, it's irrelevant. The American government should be looking out for Americans, not Mexicans. The Mexican government can look out for Mexicans, they sure as hell don't look out for people in the United States.

Given the biggest advocates of open borders tend to be the automation hawks, it can be said illegal immigrants are a dying industry in the long run.

So, are y'all Englishmen, or whatever country your ancestors came from, or are you Americans?
If you are Americans, why doesn't that definition also apply to those who want to come here and be Americans, regardless of their ancestry?

This thread would be better if it was Hispanic Immigrants > Upper-middle class white flight suburbanites

... and Rust Belt Americans are looking for ways to revitalize their communities.

Hoping or forcing government and business to pour billions into a fading industry, is not a "way to revitalize their communities."

This is absolutely a winning argument that the 2020 nominee should hammer home at every opportunity.
